EE - A Carol Depression Storyline
This is just an idea I had; I think Carol's next big storyline should be tackling the issue of depression. With the stimulus being Jim's death, because she feels like her family are slowly going away from her making feel lonely and unwanted, as well as the ongoing issues with her past battle with cancer. All in all, she begins to lose herself.
I know Lindsey Couldson could tackle a storyline like this with great justice. What do you think? |

I think Denise and Carol should both suffer from depression at the same time. As they are both in the same place emotionally. It would be nice to see a storyline from two sides of a coin and perhaps Denise and Carol could form a friendship afterwards.

I think Lindsey Coulson would do this very well. There is a big difference between being unhappy and being clinically depressed. I think the idea of both Denise and Carol depressed will be too much and the story of just Carol or just Denise would be better. If anyone would do the story justice then Lindsey Coulson would. I think Sonia would at first think her mum was just tired or unhappy and wouldn't be much help. It would take time for a diagnoses of depression. I think Eastenders would do it better than Coronation Street (which I'm also a fan of). I never really bought Steve's depression. I have depression myself and am on anti depressants. I would like to see a depression story done better and Lindsey Coulson would be the perfect actress.

A depression s/l for Denise following on from what happened with Patrick and her drinking would be interesting, I was disappointed that, that s/l stopped before it even started. I'm not sure I would want to see any more, (for better word), misery inflicted on Carol, she's needs a boost, imo.
Have they ever tackled anxiety? |

We don't need any more misery storylines for Carol. They should definitely cover depression but I think Denise should have that storyline. Denise is VERY underused and Di Parish will act her socks off. Depression is a horrible illness
and I hope they do cover this storyline but I don't want it to be Carol. But she can realistically get depresssion after a horrendous year in 2014.Kat had a depression storyline this year anyway. But it wasn't a long running storyline. |

It sounds really boring to me. We need more action in EE not people moping around the square.

I think she's the perfect fit as has often tended that way, the Denise actress could pull it off a treat too. Unfortunately it's not a subject they've handled very well in the past imo. Quote:

Have they ever tackled anxiety? More awareness is definitely a good thing here as I doubt the majority of people would know what was happening to someone suffering a severe panic attack in public let alone how to help. |

Hasn't Denise overcome the worst of her post-Ian blues since Kim gave birth and she promised to help raise Pearl?

Carol is such a natural miserable person that I don't know if it would have the same effect if it was about someone else.
Another character would be more suited to it - I agree with whoever mentioned Denise, it would've explained her behaviour the last year as well. |

If you want high octane drama with explosions, gun shots and car crashes around every corner with barely any character-driven stories told from the heart, then Hollyjokes is the place to be. Oops, sorry, Hollyoaks!

I'd like to see her interact with Kathy. They knew each other but I don't think they were friends. Did Carol work at the café back then too? Aside from Phil, Billy, Ian and Ben, Carol is going to be one of the most familiar faces to Kathy upon her return to the Square. Carol, probably hearing from others, thinks Kathy died so it'll be an interesting way to see how she reacts.

Personally I'd like to see Max suffer from depression, as I think it would give Jake Wood something different for a change. After Carol's cancer storyline last year, idk if it would really be a good idea to throw a depression storyline at Lindsey.
However, what I would like to see is something a bit different. Rather than going down the predictable route of a Shirley & Buster pairing, why don't the writers be a bit adventurous and pair Carol up with him instead? I think if written well, they'd actually make a good couple and would have chemistry and I bet Carol loves a bit of a 'bad boy' .

Shirley needs a relationship outside of Phil and they have history. I don't think a character like Buster would work with character like Carol, he does suit Shirley, imo. I liked Carol and Billy. |

Unfortunately it's not a subject they've handled very well in the past imo. Interestingly perhaps I've heard from a current and long-term member of the cast that crippling anxiety, like depression, is extremely widespread within the acting profession, and is similarly taboo (as they fear they won't get jobs). More awareness is definitely a good thing here as I doubt the majority of people would know what was happening to someone suffering a severe panic attack in public let alone how to help. |

I agree. I think from what we've seen of Shirley and buster, they show massive potential. Carol belongs with David tbh.
And I agree. Carol and David do belong together, it's such a shame that Michael French left when he did. Carol and Billy would be a quite a nice little pairing, from their scenes last month, not the most electric couple, I grant you, but it did work, imo. |

I frequently have panic attacks. My last one was when my carer was at my home this weekend. I think this would be a good storyline showing how debilitating anxiety and panic attacks can be. I'm unsure which character would be best suited.
*thanks to the poster who mentioned Janine. |
