It is inevitable that the imminent arrival of the Apple Watch will generate a massive step function in the amount of discussion on here around smart watches. Is it not time to have a separate watch/wearables forum - or is it considered so closely integrated to phones that it is better to keep it here ?

In the absence of a forum, can I ask if anyone understands the process of how to choose an Apple Watch ? I have looked on their website and it is as clear as mud. I definitely want to buy one, and I am also travelling abroad very shortly after April 24th. Thus I want the fastest route possible to buying one, but preferably after I have seen them in the flesh to decide which one. As I understand it you have to make an appointment to even look at one, but you can't make that appointment until this Friday (for some date in the future), but Friday is also the day you can order one. Am I going to have to buy one sight unseen to guarantee getting one on the 24th ?

Hell yes! There needs to be a separate forum for wearables. When the Apple iWatch is released and have been bought by people here where are they going to talk about it?

Mobile phones section? No, it's not a phone. Tablets and E-readers section? Nope, it's not a tablet.

So yes, there should definetely be a new forum created for wearables. Sony have wearables, Samsung have wearables, so do LG and numerous others. Mods should get onto this.

There has been plenty of discussion on wearables before the iwatch. But the mods have i think decided against a separate forums which is a bit daft i feel.

In regards to getting one, I'm pretty sure you can't even buy one from the shop and it's online only. So, i guess you just have to be quick on release day!

.
It's not a phone, but I can see a certain rationale to leaving it in the phone section as it's really just an extension to a phone.

Yes you'll gave to buy one without seeing it. Or you could wait , have a look at it after released then order one after that if you like it

If you look at AV Forums where they even have separate forums for each Android manufacturer I can see why they decided against it.

You end up with sections with 2 posts a week in them. Everything mobile related in a single section just makes for a busier forum.

I'd like a wearables section. The busiest thread about the Apple Watch is in the tablets forum which makes little sense.

I'd like to see an Apple Watch forum and Wearables for the rest. It makes sense to break discussions up a bit since these forums tend to be dominated by discussions about Apple products anyway.

The way I see it there are two distinct kinds of wearable

1) Add ons for mobile phones: These can be discussed in the mobile forum

2) Fitness trackers that have evolved from sports watches and heart rate monitors with Polar, Garmin, Suunto and possibly Fitbit being the main players: There does not seem to be a natural home on here to discuss those
