I actually think a male eating disorder would be more powerful than a woman who people already know have eating disorders, male eating disorders are more taboo.

Oh ok, yeah I mean Whitney has nothing to do. I wouldn't find it as plausible with Lola as Whitney, I think with Lola having a child I can't see her suddenly obsessing over her eating.

Regarding Lola I was thinking the same thing. I think bulimia would be better for Whitney. Hollyoaks already has a male eating disorder storyline and Emmerdale has Aaron with his running and self harm. I think a female bulimia story would be better for this reason.

I think eating disorder storylines could be ok, but it's hardly gripping drama to get your teeth into is it!

A bit like Sharons sleeping pill addiction. That went well didn't it............

Sharon's pills could have worked out so much better than the flop that it was.

Same here. While it is an important topic, it's been done over and over on various programs and it would be better IMO to tackle self-harming or anxiety based conditions such as trichotillomania.

I too would like to see an anxiety based storyline. I think they might have done this with Johnny eventually if Sam Strike hadn't left. It seemed to be implied during the attack at The Albert that he had some major anxiety issues but then it just petered out into nothing.

Ben would be a good fit - a guy who struggles to have control in any aspect of his life, I don't think it's unlikely he would seek that control elsewhere.

It would also lead to a good, if upsetting, reveal to see how Phil handled his son suffering from a 'girls disease' and would hopefully open people's eyes to that sort of prejudice.

Although judging by some of the treatment to the rape victim on here I'm nit sure an eating disorder sufferer would get much sympathy - some would just tell him to man up and eat a burger or something.

If EE were to run an eating disorder s/l, I don't think they should do anorexia or bulimia.

I think they should try tackling a completely different eating disorder - binge eating without purging.

This is equally as big a problem - physically and psychologically - as the disorders mentioned above, yet gets very little attention in TV drama.

It's a real disorder, but how much do the public know about it? Not as much as anorexia or bulimia, I don't think.

It usually has its roots in psychological issues and control and the resulting weight gain leads to people being stigmatised and more often than not, sends sufferers into a spiral of complete despair, depression and anxiety.

Now THAT would be a challenging storyline, which would have to build over a very long time and not have a simple resolution.

Emmerdale have not long finished an eating disorder story and a self harm one is ongoing.

True.

I found Priya's s/l immensely boring to watch, tbh.
Ditto with the Aaron one at the mo.

Didn't Priya's brother (the one who went to Canada) do the same sort of thing as Aaron? I only started watching ED a couple of episodes before he left, so not sure, but that was the impression I got.

I'd really like to see a story like that.

It would be more innovative if a male had an eating disorder storyline. Not Whitney please! I think TPTB are keeping her in the background for a reason...long may it last!

Unfortunately DTC does not care about Lola, I think Nancy would get this storyline because she is a CARTER!

I would like to see an eating disorder storyline , as I think EE could pull it off brilliantly and they could do with tackling some social issues. I think Abi would be the best candidate. She's a high achiever who puts great pressure on herself and has feelings of inadequacy in her dysfunctional family and also in her relationship with Ben. Fits the profile of someone who has an eating disorder to a T. It could also involve Ben,Jay and Lola as well as Max.

Just to say they have done an anorexia storyline before. I must admit to not remembering the character but she was actually in the show a few years! I believe the story was around 1999/2000.

Kim McFarlane:
Kim attends Walford High School and soon becomes friendly with local girls Sonia Jackson and Nicky di Marco, although she is a bit younger than them, so she often gets excluded from their more mature conversations. Later on in her time in Walford, Kim attends a modelling audition with Nicky to give her moral support. However, it is Kim who is successful and not Nicky. Ambitious Josie (her guardian) is delighted and sets about trying to get Kim to attend as many auditions as possible. However, Kim is rejected at a casting for not being slim enough and so she starts cutting out food, developing an eating disorder that threatens to spiral dangerously out of control. It takes the combined efforts of Mick and Dr Fred Fonseca (Jimi Mistry) to get Kim back on the road to recovery.
