I have been rewatching the 21st Century Doctor Who before I watch Series 8. Tonight, I rewatched The Curse of The Black Spot.

What would y'all think of a Doctor Who spinoff involving the pirate crew flying around in the space ship as was heavily implied at the end of the episode? I think that it could be great.

I wouldn't bother with those characters, but I like the idea of space pirates in the series at some point.

The Pirate Planet

Both are fairly poor apparantly.

Pirate Planet wasn't so bad and neither was The Smugglers.

The Space Pirates was indeed bad.

I think it should be more about Ghosts

Space pirates could be different, move along, you're in that space.

Also Pirates usually have a parrot, repeating stuff. If only a parrot could think of ideas instead of repeating what someone has said before. People would then listen to parrots.

I wouldn't bother, if I were you. It would be boring to watch. Plus there would be low viewing figures.

I seem to remember on here, only a few hours of it's first showing, the episode got mixed reviews. Mostly from people thinking that it was mediocre in nature.

On the original airing, 7.85 million people watched it. It wasn't the best ratings ever. That many people sat down to see the episode, thinking it would be brilliant as it had Hugh Bonneville from Downton Abbey in it. They were somewhat wrong.

I personally, thought the episode was ok. No more than that, though. The only really good thing about the episode was The Siren, played by model and bit part actress Lily Cole. She made a good villain.

When I saw the thread, I thought you meant a spinoff to the Big Finish audio Doctor Who And The Pirates.

I don't think a spinoff to The Curse Of The Black Spot would work, though. I think you need popular characters for a Doctor Who spinoff to work.

if you're going to have another Doctor Who spin-off, I can think of more worthy characters than the Pirates from The Curse Of The Black Spot.

I vote for a series where Jenny, the Doctor's Daughter, travels through time and space encountering some of the many Clara Oswald's who have supposedly been helping her Dad through his many faces and adventures.

Starring Georgia Moffett and Jenna Coleman. If I don't like the stories, I can at least admire the scenery.

This would be amazing, although I think any Jenny spinoff should be more about her search for her father than her encountering Clara splinters. It could be Doctor Who's Sonic Underground.

The ship has sailed for a Jenny spin-off. She's become an obscure oddity now.

Unless they bring her back this series

I'd say that's extremely unlikely. Even now she's probably a bit of an obscure oddity - let's not forget that 7 years have passed since we saw her in her single episode. It'd be the equivalent of bringing Adam from Series 1 back in Series 7, for example. The ship has sailed. I think if Moff were going to bring Jenny back, he'd have done it long before now.

Let's not forget he was the one who suggested she survive though so maybe he has plans for her at some point. Maybe she'll play a part in the return of Gallifrey

Maybe this is who Maisie Williams is playing.

Let's also not forget that Moffat himself forgot he ever did that and was quite surprised when RTD gave him credit for keeping the character alive.

Let's be honest, the Doctor's Daughter was another gimmicky episode. "Great title, but we can't really bring in his real daughter because we haven't got the balls to write out his history. We're not going to bring in the family that explains how he had a grand-daughter back in 1963 and we're not going to reveal the real name of the Doctor, not even in an episode entitled The Name Of The Doctor."

She's a very importanr character in Doctor Who mythology.

Jenny was an awful character poorly played and terribly written. Anyone who thinks she's ever even coming back to the main show let alone getting a spin off is utterly deluded.

"Apparently"? You should check them out for yourself. The Pirate Planet is actually a minor classic. A Hell of a lot better than 'Curse of the Black Spot' for sure :P

Amen. That episode is certainly one of Doctor Who's worst story ideas, and not mitigated in the slightest by its execution.

Moffat's said himself that he even forgot that he was the one who suggested she survive the episode.

Sorry, didn't see this. But yeah, basically this. Moff had no plans for her. I doubt he ever did or will tbh.

Nah not really. Not in the grand scheme of things. She was a bit of a wasted opportunity even in her own episode, she was a gimmick, and she wasn't even that memorable.

Isn't there an episode called The Space Pirates?
