For some reason I am unable to get the internet on my phone except when I am at home when it connects to the wi fi.

I am with vodaphone but can't think that has any bearing on it. Has anyone any ideas what is wrong.

Under my wi fi settings I have a tick in the wi fi box and one in network notification. Am I missing something.

In advance of any advice on how to enable / configure mobile internet, do you know whether your tariff includes any mobile data? If not, I would strongly encourage you to go research adding some: without it the per-megabyte fees can be somewhere on the scale between outrageous and laughable.

As a starter for ten, have you found within the settings the "Mobile Data" checkbox - is it ticked?

Thanks for your reply blueacid. my tariff does include the internet and it did work a while ago. Im not too technically minded so any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. I have a heading of mobile networks under wireless and network - under this I have - Use packet data, data roaming, access point - neither of which are ticked. I have been told not to tick data roaming. Are any of these relevant.

Don't worry if you cant help. I will have to go into the nearest vodaphone shop and see if they can work it out but its a bit of a journey.

If you tick use packet data it should work. Data roaming is use of data abroad so that's damn expensive, best leave roaming off!

Thanks I will try that. It does say that it may incur additional charges but presumably as I have this as part of my tariff it should be ok.
