This one is quite shocking. The video is very sad.
Walter Scott was pulled over by the officer over a broken car light - the victim ran off and was shot 8 times in the back!
Officer Michael Slager has been charged with murder - he claims the victim took his taser but it doesn't appear the victim had a weapon looking at the video and apparently the officer dropped something next to the body.

I didn't really read too much it until I saw the video, really sad and I hope justice is served.

I don't know what's happening over there but it's getting out of control. Why do these officers shoot to kill at EVERY opportunity ?

I know people will say why did he run but the way I see it I think this man knew he was in a no win situation (imo) and I think there is a lot of fear of the police over there at the moment. Either way whether he ran or not, there is no way he should have been gunned down 8 times in the back! And for the sake of a broken light!

Disgraceful, cold blooded murder.

There was no scuffle, he ran away and the murdering cop shot him 8 times in the back. It was recorded on a mobile phone.

He has been charged with murder and rightly so.

Did he? I have no idea, tasering him would have been OK but to shoot him 8 times in the back and then the cop lied.

Glad someone took phone footage.

You're right Woodbush, I thought I'd read that but can't see it so I took the scuffle bit out of the post.

Disgusting and I hope justice prevails here.

Sorry when I say this man being in a no win situation I meant the victim. Not the killer cop.

That was the cops statement, lying bastard.

I understand that, I wasn't criticising you.

Did he say that? I'm glad they charged him and not just with manslaughter but murder. He totally lied about the taser too.

Apparently he threw down next to the body.

Shocking. I think he'll go down for murder and the police should come out and apologise for employing such a person.

How can you shoot a person 8 times in the back? I'm trying to imagine.

"Stop!"
*Bang*
(Guy gets hit and falls)

How can the other 7 shots happen? Has he got an uzi? Can you be shot 7 times in the back and still require an 8th shot? That's like something out of an Arnie movie.

Not to mention that the first shot seems wildly excessive...but 8 times! That sounds like unloading into a corpse!

(Have watched the video now and that is one fast gun! If Oswald shot like this guy then I'll buy any JFK theory fed to me.)

I'm sure he will. The police commissioner has apologised.

It's a good thing as we've said this was caught on video. Makes you wonder of what the camera generally doesn't catch.

If he isn't convicted, I give up on our justice system. It should be basically impossible for him to take the standard tactic of coming up with some reason that he thought it was necessary. He's on tape immediately staging the the crime scene and reporting facts that totally conflict with what he is seen to do. By all rights there should be no possible way to claim he thought it was justified at the time, when his actions show that he knows it was not.

He will be convicted, that video is damning evidence.
Michael Slager will spend the rest of his life incarcerated.

Which is standard police operating procedure across all States in the US.

If it's a mainly white jury, there's a fair chance in S Carolina that he won't be convicted of murder. Sad to say.

I seem to recall from one of the recent similar cases that officers are instructed to shoot the torso (the largest body section) as opposed to legs or arms, and to unload the entire clip in one go. Obviously in this case that practice was unnecessary, but it would seem to be what's instilled in training.
