What is your position on shooting people in the back?

If you make people understand that they are insignificant in society, to such an extent even the police will kill them without thinking twice, it's no surprise you get rioting and looting in response. The feeling is "why bother respecting the law, when it has little regard for our lives?"

Pretty childish/selfish act though don't you think?

I don't like the police so I'm going to go round smashing things up and stealing, affecting and ruining other people's lives.

If a jury acquits him then they will have spent hundreds of hours viewing and listening to the evidence before coming to a considered verdict.

There's no logic in any of it. Neither the callous killing of citizenry, or their reaction to it. All of it is wrong.

In theory, but history has shown time and time again that juries often express their own prejudices, even in spite of evidence to the contrary.

I think that's my only issue with this. Someone mentioned that the cop was judge, jury and executioner yet here we all are doing the exact same based upon a YouTube clip.

Don't get me wrong he appears to be totally guilty and should face jail, but luckily our legal system isn't based on YouTube clips

No one on here has shot anyone. We are discussing it. The same discussion that will be happening in many places.
The moving of the taser and radio message from the police officer are particularly damning.

Quite. The footage appears to show him in the wrong but I've learned to be wary. Videos are notorious for not showing the whole story and when someone is being accused of murder, I'd rather be safe than sorry; let's get all the facts and if, as it appears, he is guilty then we can punish him.

My own view of it is that there was an altercation between the guy and the cop. He has then ran off, the cop has panicked and being the rigger happy type the are, he has shot him. In panic realising he has messed up he has chucked the taser down to make it look like he was attacked.

He appears to be an idiot who has made a stupid decision and tried to cover his mistake.

Should be found guilty and sent to jail.

He doesn't appear to be a racist cold blooded murderer as made out who has found a black guy and just gunned him down.

Just my view on it.

The local news is far better. You get a real taste of the tensions and statements as they happen. The rally earlier was pretty heart-breaking and tense.

They've got an independent body in to investigate but the police aren't exactly backing him at this early stage with the early charge. He's also been fired and placed in protective custody. Mayor says they have more video which is with SLED (independent investigators I think) but that he hasn't watched it himself.

I expect tensions will remain high until the rest of the video gets released and either exonerates or damns him.

Well it's definitely cold blooded murder. I'm sorry but no decent person with a conscience could shoot dead another human being, who posed no threat to them.

You have to ask yourself if he would have shot a white guy dead in the same circumstances. My betting is not.

Well that view - wrongly or rightly - is because the officer is white and the deceased was black and it is against a national context. I don't see how you can come to your conclusion however.

What about people that have shot intruders running away from their home? Are they cold blooded murderers too?

Just to reiterate, I don't condone this and firmly believe the cop should go to jail, but I agree with the mayor who stated the cop made a bad decision. He did.

Again, the same way a person can 'assume' it's a racist incident based on a few seconds of video. Why does that make your conclusion more correct than mine?

As I said, he may well not be a racist. I've explained why that interpretation might come about.

You got this cop on CAMERA murdering a man who was running away from him, planting a taser to make it seem like the victim was a 'threat' and lying in his statement before this video came and still you got people trying to justify this.
