Aleks Shirovs' exit is to air next week.

Kristian Kiehling who plays Aleks Shirovs has left EastEnders and his exit scenes will air next week after over a year on the BBC soap.

The door will, however, be left open for a possible return.

Aleks arrived on Albert Square in January 2014 and was one of the many characters introduced under Dominic Treadwell-Collins to bring life back to Bridge Street market. He made his presence felt as the new market inspector and soon became involved in a romance with Roxy Mitchell.

Next week will see Tamwar and Nancy discover a shocking secret about the Latvian native that will bring his time on the show to a close. EastEnders insiders are keeping tight lipped about the secret but they have teased that it's bigger than him having a secret wife. 'This will affect the whole market' said a source.

Before his departure, Aleks is preparing to propose to Roxy. He overhears her and Charlie talking about their affair in the pub. Instead of proposing, he confronts his lover and asks how long she's been sleeping with her sister's husband. Will he tell Ronnie before he departs? And what does this mean for Roxy, Charlie and Ronnie?

Ronnie is recovering in hospital and starts to speak again next week. This causes Roxy to panic as she fears that she knows about her betrayal. Rita has teased that Roxy may even tell her herself.

Kiehling's exit follows that of Timothy West, whose exit scenes are due to air on the BBC soap tonight. Both made their onscreen debuts in January 2014. Aleks' exit scenes are set to play out all next week.

Oh that's a shame. I like Aleks. I guess it's not a colossal loss though.

Aleks seemed a decent character at first but I'm not sure I can remember a thing he has done in the past 6 months

This is a shame but obvious after Rita Simons said Roxy does not love Aleks. I guess Aleks will leave Walford with Marta and Ineta.

I liked aleks, but I did feel he was a bit of a spare part so maybe it is right for him to go. At least next week is not Carter orientated by the looks of it

Great. Looks like we may be getting a Roxy/Charlie romance which will be AWFUL

What was wrong with Ronnie and Charlie?

Thought so, shame really since he was getting good.

Can't believe he's being written out just to facilitate this stupid Roxy/Charlie storyline.

Wasted potential IMO. Even those 2 episodes when Roxy bonded with Ineta are just going down the toilet.

Who'll be the new market inspector? Tamwar? Martin? Claudette??

I wont miss him per se but I feel him and Roxy worked as a couple and now we are left with a silly Roxy/Charlie/Ronnie triangle.

Had a feeling this story with Roxy/Charlie was leading to an exit for him. Shame as he had grown on me and I quite liked him with Roxy.

I won't exactly miss him, but he's the only guy I've ever thought suited Roxy so it's a strange one to get rid.

Damn.

I liked his pairing with Roxy and the dynamic with Charlie and Ronnie being his almost in-laws. I hate that they've ruined it all with Roxy and Charlie sleeping together.

Hate this - Aleks was frequently the best thing in an episode when he was in it and one of the few characters who didn't react to the market traders bullying. He even handled Alfie's xenophobic abuse without being cowed by it. Even when he was doing unlikeable things, I still always liked him which was a credit to the actor.

He was also responsible for making Roxy likeable for the first time since Sean left but ofc they then decided to regress her character yet again. Such a waste.

Really, really disappointed by this. Good luck to Kristian.

I'm gutted about this news, Aleks has been one of my favourite characters since he joined and for him to leave so quickly and out off the blue is a huge disappointment for me. I mean I didn't expect the character to have a long shelf life but I thought if he was leaving he'd at least have had a decent and suitable exit storyline and announcement behind it with a bit more than a week's warning for it. The show should be holding onto the decent up and coming characters they have, not axing them.
