What is it sharing with on COM7 that it can still only broadcast for 2 hours a day?

I suspect they are choosing to broadcast these limited hours

More of a strategic move to secure an EPG slot*, while paying the minimum amount of carriage fee possible and allowing Spike to broadcast its full schedule on Freeview.

But its not like it is a decent slot really. You may as well on com 7 broadcast full time hours if your viva given the cost of transmission would be so low compared to what they are used to paying.

You can't rely on things posted on the internet, especially Wikipedia. According to the Viva website it is still on LCN21 (from 09:00 to 03:00)!

Not any more, it's been corrected.

Edit: There's no record in the history of it having been changed to 24 hours, so I don't understand which article you were looking at, I'm looking at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viva_(UK_and_Ireland)

Yeah, don't trust Wikipedia - for obvious reasons. Idiots like me edit it.

The article in question - List of digital terrestrial television channels (UK) - is currently maintained primarily by myself, and is based on information from the Freeview forum, a516digital, the ukdtt twitter, and whatever I obverse on my tuner.

The 24 hours was a somewhat logical assumption I made when I was lacking EPG data from the channel. I also noted this assumption in the changelog over on the main Freeview forum, in the hope I could get some better info. My tuner is a bit special at the moment... seems to enjoy swapping schedules between channels.

I have now corrected my mistaken edit.

It does make you wonder why as you would think broadcasting 24/7 can't be that expensive for viva on com7.

I wonder if vintage tv could be the next to move like motors into a streamed and linier service?

You were right.

It appears that Viacom have decided to put minority Channel 'Rishtey' on Freeview, rather than extend the hours of Viva.

Is it a shared channel then?

Just speculation at this stage:

It was purely speculation, and mysteriously wrong: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...90&postcount=6

For the record, that's now 5 HD streams, and 5 SD streams running at any one time, plus a 6th part-time SD stream for Viva's limited hours, and a radio station.

Rishtey is using the old Community Channel slot, which was dual running with the new slot until last week.

You may remember that the Community Channel stayed 24/7 on COM7 after VIVA moved across.

Don't forget one MHEG-IC service: Planet Knowledge.

Talking Pictures has been pencilled in to start on 15/9/15. It may be that this is timesharing with Viva??

I agree. In my opinion, Viva is far better than 5+24 😴

The announcement that they were starting on Freeview on 15/9/15 has been withdrawn and replaced with a statement to the effect that they will be starting on a new platform that will benefit those without Sky, but that they were not allowed to say which one!

This could mean Freesat, Virgin Media or one of the smaller IPTV companies.

My bet is that they meant Freesat, as this would be the most cost effective way to increase their reach.

Of course, it could mean that they are to go onto Freeview, but have had their knuckles rapped!

Maybe they are going IPTV on Freeview like their other channel vintage TV.

Or maybe Vintage is moving to Com7 and that is going IP - as if you were putting any channel on Freeview it would be vintage.

Now there are slots available to do so, Sony/CSC could capitalise on Viva's reduction of hours and shift Chart Show TV over from GMAN to wider availability and mop up the ex-Viva audience... They could put it out on the Local TV (Comux) areas, replacing QVC Extra, which would make it available to all boxes (SD and HD) in areas which already receive CSC's POP; or they could go to COM7, which would remove Chart Show from SD boxes in Manc but in return gain coverage on T2 boxes in all COM7 areas, areas which also receive Viva at its reduced time. CSTV could in theory clean up here, particularly when 4music is showing evening programming, which would leave Chart Show the pretty much sole provider of music videos outside Manchester...

As for the GMAN slot currently contracted to CSC, that could be used to bring another of the group's channels to DTT - True Movies, maybe, which could also get LCN 60 as an associate of True Ent.; this could then move to a wider area later subject to capacity coming available, just as happened with movies4men - with limited (for now at least) available capacity on the core muxes, broadcasters who want an outlet on DTT have got to act fast...

That completely ignores the reason why channels switched from music videos to entertainment genres in the first place. Viewers don't watch music videos for long periods, they dip in and out of the channels. The viewing pattern isn't attractive to advertisers and music video channels don't make enough money to cover costs and make a profit. The way forward for music video channels is with internet delivery,

“...broadcasters who want an outlet on DTT have got to act fast...”

Really? There doesn't seem to be any rush to fill the extra capacity available on COM8.

It's back 24 hours seems VIVA will be around a bit longer.

I did wonder when I was away up north for two days and seen VIVA on in a bar one afternoon.
I never knew it was back on 24 hours just thought as it was Sky they was using that it was only on 24 hours on that.
Good to see VIVA has returned to 24 hours as I used to was it at times.
I do also watch Heart and Magic now and again via the Freeview IPTV on my Samsung full HD smart TVs.
I cant say I watch 4music much.

I wonder how long until non-music programmes return, if VIVA is back for good.
