MS do need a decent halo/flagship device, at the moment they literally have no such devices available in their range.

There are generally no useful features on the majority of such devices anyway - at least not on any of the Android devices on the market.

Incidentally, W10 seems to be running quite well on my 1020. With the caveat of the new camera application being completely and utterly useless - it obviously had no testing on the 1020.
How did you get WP 10 on your 1020? I'm on the Developer Preview dealie, I got 8.1 early etc, but have had no indication of a WP10 preview.

I haven't tried Spotify on WP (have it on my iPhone 4S), but that was apparently lagging behind the iOS and Android clients.
I've had Spotify Premium on my 1020/WP8.2. It worked perfectly, though I now use Deezer as I have a free premium subscription from EE.

Install the Windows Insider application, that gets you in ... but only use it to install the 8.1GDR2 update.

W10 itself isn't built right for the 1020. New camera application is dire, playing around with Spartan somehow enabled flight mode (which shouldn't be available), no way of setting an alarm for any time other than 7am. The people hub automatically brings in all your twitter/facebook contacts with the filtering option not yet being available ...

It is however just as smooth as most earlier releases, the settings menu is very nicely organised (as it is on GDR2).

Only go for it if you have a backup phone ....

I'll second that. Don't put it on your primary phone unless you are prepared to put up with a few bugs. I put W8.1 update 2 on my 830 and stopped it there. I'm not sure all phones are being offered the update 2 so be careful.
That said. It is possible to roll it back to 8.1 from 10 if you really get stuck.

I'm enjoying being back using the old 808.

W10 is definitely going to be good when they get it complete; there are some strange design choices in there that are (hopefully) works in progress, and being on the Insider programme I'll at least be able to suggest changes (which will likely be ignored).

Thanks for the advice: I think I'll wait. I'm due an upgrade on my main phone in the next couple of months, there's rumours of a Lumia Phablet with Pureview camera (40+ Mp camera), I'm intrigued to see what emerges.

W8.1 on PCs runs rather well; on tablets it makes Android look a bit clunky.
8.1 is useable. I quite like it. Just not windows 8. They are very different behind the scenes.

I hope that they do release something like that, it would possibly keep me on the platform. My next upgrade is due november, so fingers crossed.

There is no point in a flagship phone prior to win 10 being released. Can you imagine how slow a carrier update will be. Might as well wait till the os launches and realise flagships with win 10 installed.

There's one heck of a lot of pressure to get Windows 10 right. Overall the desktop build seems pretty good, but the mobile version is much further from being ready.

Although I don't see why they can't release a flagship device earlier, all their current range are guaranteed W10 on its release. And it would be in a better position than virtually every Android device, where you're at the mercy of both the manufacturer and the operator. With W10, you're "just" at the mercy of the operator.
