I am not really big on technology.
I am after an inexpensive radio, about the size of an ipod to clip of my belt.
Can you get them ? What are they called ?
The last portable radio I had was in the 80's and it was the size of a Sony Walkman !

Yes, plenty of options available. Firstly do you own a mobile phone? Many have an FM radio built in.

If you want DAB then you can get small ones, if you don't want to buy off eBay or Amazon then Argos do a Small Bush one with a built in rechargeable battery, essential for DAB as they do use up batteries.

No, I don't have a mobile phone. I have never had one

Yes I've got one of these. They are pretty good for the money. My only gripe is that the cheap plastic scratches easily but for the money they are very good.

I'm about to buy a new pocket DAB radio for the cricket season.....

I've had one before, a few years ago, but the reception in central London wasn't great and I ended up sticking it in a draw and buy a pocket Medium Wave radio for about a tenner which was fine for my purposes........basically Test Match Special

When I tried my DAB radio again recently I couldn't get it to work

I now think reception has improved, or so I've been told, and I also want the option of listening to some Digital channels like Sports Extra

The one I had before was a bit fiddly to use........it had controls that you pushed a bit this way to do one thing and a bit another way to do something else......that puts me off the Pure one linked to above. That round dial looks fiddly for my increasingly arthritic fingers

I need something with separate push button controls and had settled on the Argos Bush one as I just noticed a new Argos near me and got the catalogue on Saturday

this one.......

Looks OK I think ?.......

Tesco sell small battery radios for a few quid cigarette packet sized (ish). I'm sure eBay will have some really tiny ones though.

I should avoid the cricket swingaleg, I hear it is X certificate this summer.
That radio looks fine, the only thing with any of these small ones is the internal battery. Unlike slightly large ones there is no option to swap over the AAAs if it runs down, so you won't be able to listen to TMS all day..

I can get two days TMS from my Pure 1500 DAB radio. Sadly, what I can't get is a decent DAB signal in much of the town. Happily, I still have a LW portable I keep in the bathroom that I can take with me.

So much choice out there for radios...
I have a Pure Dab portable one, very nice (model 2000 or 2500 I think). Very good sound, decent rechargeable battery. The signal runs on Vodafone 3g network, and cuts out less than say using a mobile phone app would, got mine in John Lewis a couple of years ago.

Sony tradional FM/Am radios are good quality, and work with old style batteries, they do some good small ones that last a long time on one / two batteries (40 hours plus).
Had this one myself, very nice, but seems a bit pricy at the moment...

Coming from Dab / digital radios though, the inference difference is really noticeable. But with dab you either get a great reception, or nothing.

battery life doesn't bother me as I work from home so only need a pocket radio if I go out for a walk in the park during the day........couple of hours max !

and that Bush one is rechargeable

one thing I'm not keen on is having the earpiece wire as the aerial because it means you have to use those little earpiece things that keep falling out of your ears.......

ideally I'd like to use mu normal headphones that are external ones with a metal strap over the top of your head

I could do with getting a headband like tennis players wear to put around my head over my ears to keep those little earpieces in.......

Swingaleg, I mentioned battery life as your spec says up to 6 hours, and I know from experience rechargeable ones just die with no indication.

I've got one of these. It is so small and so lightweight. Crap sound without headphones but serves he purpose for me. I think it cost me £4.99 and worth every penny. I do have internet radio on phone, but don't have a big enough data plan to use it unless on wifi.

You can use those normal headphones instead with the lead of those acting as the aerial.
