Does anyone else think the quality of the contestants on Pointless has been particularly poor recently and is getting worse and I thought the two pairs in the head to head today were both very undeserving of a place in the final.
The standard is so poor lately it's beginning to effect my enjoyment of what has until been one of my favourite programmes.

Yeah, they were rather poor, but I wonder if it's because the BBC is trying to get people who aren't quiz nerds on the show.

Maybe.
But it wasn't just todays contestants. I've been noticing a dip in quality for the last few months. And the two finalists today were not only very obviously not 'quiz nerds' but they weren't particularly great personalities either if that is what you're suggesting the BBC is aiming for.

I think the quiz is rather skewed by Richard Osman's personal interests. He loves football, pop music and films so these subjects are far more likely to come up regularly than, say, politics or literature.

Often "blokey" types do well as their interests are likely to be in line with Richard's but if they get to the final and there isn't a spots/film/pop music question then they are floundering. I thought the two lads on Thursday were pretty bright and were able to dredge up a pointless answer after what at first appeared to have been a disastrous choice of final category. Yesterday's contestants at least managed to come up with "Evelyn Glennie" which, even though it was wrong, was a good suggestion.

I doubt Richard has much say on which topics should be featured. I doubt he has the time.

Are films and Pop Music particularly blokey? seems a stretch to me. Richard loves a wide range of subjects.

Brandreth can **** off.
