I've been disappointed with the standard of the teams on Pointless recently despite there having been several winners but credit where credit is due those lads today were good - that's the standard I expect to see on telly quiz shows.

A local MP, Lib Dem for Solihull Lorely Burt, was pointless yet again. Unfortunately she won't be pointless in the future as she lost her seat in last week's election. I didn't hear all the names Richard read out as scoring points but I suspect that John Bercow, The Speaker, was pointless too, rather surprisingly.

No he wasn't but there were some high profile Pointless ones - Ken Clarke for one

The whole point is to get a mix of contestants. You need the 100s as much as the Pointless answers or it becomes boring

Good knowledge her knowing Nuuk but unlucky
That's a common mistake made on quiz shows. Similar to saying Benjamin Franklin was a US President.

Greenland isn't in Europe anyway, it's North America.

I 'named' John Bercow, only because my mind went mostly blank, but he wasn't pointless as Richard included his name in those scoring points.

The lady who said "Nuuk" was clever for knowing that, but not so clever for thinking Greenland was a country and part of Europe...such a pity after her companion scored just 1 point.

I just watched an old Pointless on Challenge where there was a missing letters round.

One of the answers was Giant Schnauzer. Zander ask how they were spelling it as obviously people say that differently. They bloke spelt it and got it wrong because he missed a letter out

Now he knew what the breed was so why was the spelling so important!!!

Sorry rant over

But they did get to the final

Geographically it's part of North America but politically it's part of Europe so it depends on the exact phrasing of the question which I can't remember.

I wouldn't say it's part of Europe, even though it's part of the Kingdom of Denmark, some countries are in more than one continent.

Two observations about the geography answers:

1. Nobody - and I mean nobody - is as bad at the geography rounds as the celebrities.

I don't know why that is, because you would have thought that they'd be well-travelled, etc, and know a thing or two about other parts of the world but some of them are appalling.

Tahiti is not a country, guys, any more than the Isle of Wight is a country.

2. Nobody will ever cock-up a geography question as the contestant whose answer for a country in Africa with a repeated vowel in its name (ie, at least two As, two Es, two Is, two Os and/or two Us) answered... Goa.

Wrong on three counts: it doesn't have a repeated vowel, it's not a country and it's not even in Africa.

The thing is, that person wasn't even going first. I think they were the third person to answer so when Richard went over the first couple of answers ("Yep, Nigeria, two Is there") he should have been clued up as to what was needed even if he hadn't listened properly when the round began.

Greenland isn't in Europe. That's not even open for debate, it's just fact.

You're right about many countries being in more than one continent. Russia and Turkey are the classic examples of that but so are Egypt (Africa and Asia), Spain (Europe and Africa) and France (Europe and many other continents).

In the case of Spain and France they have territories overseas that are considered to be as much parts of the nation as the bulk that's in Europe. For example, French Guiana, where ESA launches its rockets from, is a French department in South America. Others are in the Caribbean (North America) and the Indian Ocean (Africa).

And as well as the departments France has overseas collectivities, like French Polynesia (of which Tahiti is one island of many).

Saying that Greenland is in Europe just because Denmark is in Europe is silly.

Greenland isn't a sovereign nation that's a member of the UN in its own right so it and its capital will never be a correct answer to a question on Pointless.

Also in that same situation (in case any of you are ever on the show) are Vatican City and Taiwan - both not UN members. Ditto Kosovo, Palestine, Somalialand (as opposed to Somalia, which is) and one or two others.
