Rhona Cameron just overtook Sandie Shaw as most irritating, up herself, over-excited, annoying cow in the history of Pointless.

The BBC doesn't exactly splash the cash in the celeb editions, does it?

What did they win? £2,500? Is that each, or between them?

What happens if they don't win the "jackpot"? Do their charities get anything at all?

On the celeb editions of the Chase they can be playing for tens of thousands. And even if they get beat they still get a thousand each for their charity.

Could not take anymore or her so put Tipping Point on and the unfunny Tim Vine is on it
Did I imagine it or did they just ask that Angelika woman, what major river, flows through Merseyside?

Per pair. But you've been around DS long enough to know exactly what would happen if they made it more. BBC gives away taxpayers' money etc. etc. Pointless is actually one of the more generous BBC quiz programmes. A lot of them are, for fear of the backlash, basically for pride!

They have a £50,000 jackpot on National Lottery: Who Dares Wins. They could quite easily increase the jackpot on PC to £5000 or £10000. It's not extravagant.

But that's paid for by the National Lottery. The Beeb couldn't possibly fund prizes of that magnitude. The Celebrity version is already 2.5 times the daily show's basic jackpot and of course it works both ways; substantially increase the celebrity jackpot and you start getting demands for similar for the daily show. With the extreme sensitivity of the professional complainers to any hint of lavish living at the Beeb I can fully understand why 2500 is considered the 'right' number for the foreseeable future..

Does anyone know if the Radio 2 edition has been screened yet? I remember Ken Bruce saying he had filmed an edition of pointless celebrities months ago with other R2 presenters. But as far as I know it hasn't been on yet.

£250 each, that's even worse. And most times I would imagine that's all the charity will get, because the jackpot is pretty hard to win. On Bullseye they used to get a pro darts player on to throw for charity and they got nine darts at the board. Whatever they scored was given to the winnng team's chosen charity. If they got 301 or more it was doubled. And that was thirty years ago.

Even if all the celebs are appearing for nothing, or a nominal fee, they'll presumably get expenses. The cost of producing the programme and paying everybody in the studio must dwarf the amount they're playing for. You could argue that the celeb shows really are pointless, at least they are in terms of raising money for charity. They should be playing for a meaningful sum of money, otherwise why bother having special celeb editions?

I think the winning pair should get £5,000 between them if they win the jackpot and a thousand each if they don't. That's hardly going to break the bank, in fact it's a drop in the ocean considering the sums of money the BBC spends on its talent and its army of managers and administrators.

There would be no need to increase the prize money for the normal editions.
