Do pronunciations have to be correct? Thought it was a bit harsh over Christmas when a contestant was deemed to have given an incorrect answer for mispronouncing Mel Giedroyc's surname.
To be honest I agree with you - it was clear that they knew who they were talking about. No doubt folks on here will disagree with us though

Tasselled Wobbegong may just be the best Pointless answer I have ever heard!

Here is what it looks like: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasselled_wobbegong

Perhaps in addition to the most stupid answer given in a TV quiz, we ought to have a thread on impressive answers, starting with the above.

I was surprised early on when they allowed Inspector Poroit as a correct answer. If someone else had suggested John Bond it would have scored 100.

Only Hercule Poirot, or just Poroit should have been accepted.

I tend to agree with you, especially if it's a name you might only have seen in print briefly but never really paid much attention when it was spoken.

I only realised fairly recently that Dara Ó Briain wasn't Dara O'Brian. Still don't really know how to pronounce it correctly.
