Screen protector?
Hi all,
About to get my first tablet (Galaxy Tab S 8.4) and, as a fairly clumsy person, I'm investing in a decent case for it. As I'm going to have this, do I need to worry about a screen protector too? I haven't bothered with one for my phone (well, one came with my phone's case, but attempting to put it on just went wrong, it looked awful and I just took it off and haven't bothered since). Would just the case be enough? Any arguments for/against please? |

Most screens these days are quite scratch resistant, and a protector is only of limited value.
What does help is if you have (say) a polypropylene or leather cover that fully covers the edges, and then if you drop on to a floor, the cover acts like a shock absorber reducing likelihood of impact damage. Nothing can really stop a screen breaking or even shatter if dropped awkwardly such that the screen takes the initial impact and a protector will not really help. A good leather case is probably the best protection, as even with it open, the risk of landing such that screen takes the initial impact is reduced. A screen protector might stop your screen from shattering into small pieces, with screen containing the small pieces rather than scattering them, reducing possible cuts. |

thaks both. The case I'm looking at is a proper leather one, and seems to cover all corners from looking at the picture. It's not cheap so I'm hoping that's indicative of a certain amount of quality! I've had my phone in a fake leather case since I got in nearly 2 and a half years ago, and, touch wood, I've never broken that, but I'd want something more hefty for a tabet.
The tempered glass sounds interesting, I've not heard of that before so I'll take a look. |

A leather case should do you. My concern is more around keys and loose change scratching the screen

The tempered glass sounds interesting, I've not heard of that before so I'll take a look. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Snugg-Galaxy...nugg+tab+s+8.4 I had the same case on my previous Samsung Tablet with no screen protector, no visible scratches. Obviously you're careful when you're using it and when you're not the case provides good protection when it's closed. Screen protectors can be a nightmare to put on, the larger they are the more difficult it is to prevent the tiniest spec of dust that you can barely see creating a bubble under the protector. |

Thanks, a flip case it is then!
This is the one I had my eye on but the Snugg case looks good too (I like the hand strap!) |

It's good that you can see more of the tab s itself as they do look nice, you would just have to be careful you don't drop it with the case open.
