This is someone who thinks the Christopher Eccleston we saw being nice to fans was actually a look-alike and that an interview he gave this month actually dates from 2005, so I think the answer could be yes.

Dalekbuster Logic is insane. Don't try and understand it.

Yes, and speak in a Welsh accent instead. RTD's original agenda was to film it in Cardiff for the first series and quietly rename the show Doctor Hewitt for the second series. The third series was intended to be spoken entirely in Welsh with English sub titles for the Americans, but none for viewers in England.

As a God-feaing Englishman, Eccleston put his foot down and the subsequent stink his actions caused scuppered both RTD's plans and career.

Would you call it professional refusing to be asked about certain questions out of pettiness for set politics?

Good Heavens Dalekbuster, give it up won't you please.
Flying in the face of all logic and obvious common sense you still seem convinced that CE ought to give every spare minute of his life over to talking about Doctor Who and somehow pleasing Doctor Who fans like yourself.
This is clearly utter nonsense, as ever other poster on this thread has been saying, over and over, so please give it a rest and lets talk about something sensible.

Not yet. The oojit-trembler isn't in alignment with the galactic-gooblesplurt screens. Won't be long though...

Just chiming in to say, boy, Chris/9 is a fantastic Doctor. One of the best.

It's professional of actors to answer questions related to the work they are currently doing. Everything else is at their discretion. Everyone else seems to understand that, but after being repeatedly told you still do not.

From an interview in the Independent today:

Quote:
“Apologies in advance to Christopher Eccleston, and I hope he understands, but I’m getting the Doctor Who thing out of the way early (although, having read of interviews being abruptly terminated on the topic being broached, I also left asking him it until late).

Eccleston, you may recall, was the first of the rebooted Time Lords after the BBC sci-fi long-runner was resurrected in 2005, leaving after one series amidst rumours of rancour, remarking that – although being very proud of the role – he “didn’t enjoy the environment and culture that the cast and crew had to work in”. Does he still feel such ambivalence?

“Not at all, actually,” he says, showing no signs of heading for the exit. “I have great love for the character, great love for the series. The problem I encounter is when I’m publicising something, I’m asked to talk about a project from 10 years ago... So it’s that, it’s no hard feelings really...””

There you go! That, Daily Mirror, is how you interview someone!

Well it's hardly from a trustworthy source, but CE's response seems reasonable.

It may be frustrating for him, but it's not going to change.

Ok Ok - this thread is becoming beyond dumb!
Please read this article http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/cele...sh-accent.html

Some Key Points - Christopher Eccleston, the actor, has told how he insisted on having a northern accent after taking the role of Doctor Who, to defy assumptions that clever people must have a posh voice.

and

“I hope I’ll be remembered as one of the Doctors. I have no ill feeling towards the character or the series.”

Yep. For reasons laid out in paistaking detail by many others here. Those who seem to grasp the real world. Perhaps you might want to listen to some of them instead of dismissing them immediately.

It can be physically painful to change ingrained beliefs that cause cognitive dissonance, but it is ultimately worthwhile.

You know the old saying: "If you only read one newspaper, make sure it's one you really disagree with." After all, that's the way you can be sure you're not simply being spoonfed with stuff that just tells you what you already want to hear.

(I suppose they should update that to "If you only read one blog or Twitter feed..." nowadays, but you get the idea.)

When I read a lazy headline written by a lazy hack ("Christopher Eccleston quit because they wanted him to drop his northern accent!") who has absolutely nothing in an equally lazy article to substantiate it with, that's reason enough for me. And I only say that after clicking on the link in this discussion to check that article. A single glance at the links to other articles on that page is enough to convince me they're not worth bothering with - either trash or fluff.

Chris is right with his comments about 'luvvie' actors. It's a fact of the business.

It seems that certain people at the BBC were like 'who is this guy? what do you mean my parents didn't go to Oxford with his parents??' when he took his concerns to them over the series. If he fell out with RTD it could have been because RTD didn't stick up for him. Though, it's understandable if he was on the edge not wanting his new show to go wrong by upsetting BBC bigwigs...

We've sort of gotten the gist of the whole situation over the years. It's by no means the only production fall-outs there has been on Doctor Who, both classic series and new. Shit happens...

Who does the guy think he's kidding? We all know he doesn't have ANY 'great love' for the show or character.

Please do not project your opinion of Christopher Eccleston on to his opinion of the show and The Doctor, just because it suits you.

That's DB for you. Next he'll be plucking quotes out of thin air and claiming they're from the mouth of Chris himself.

There are some very odd people knocking around the DW fandom aren't there? And I don't mean good odd. I mean cross the road to avoid them odd.

No wonder CE wants to politely distance himself. I mean you wouldn't sit at a table waiting for these sorts to queue up and ask them to sign your Dalek would you? However low the bank balance. I'm amazed any of them do.

There might be something in that, given that in The Radio Times interview he said of Doctor Who, "I don't watch it," and in The Independent he's quoted as saying, "I have great love... for the series." I'm not sure about about anyone else but I do generally watch programmes I have great love for.

Why, after ten years, are some people still hung up about the reasons Chris only did one series ? I think that when he says things like " I have great love for the series" he is just being polite. Can you imagine the reaction if he had said " F-----g stop talking about f-----g Doctor Who. It was f-----g awfull working on it. The producers were all w-----s and treated the cast and crew like s--t. And as for thos f----g awfull rubber monstersi" Now I'm not for one minute suggesting that is what he realy thinks but come on, it was ten years ago.

No. We don't. This is your personal opinion. Please don't claim to speak for other fans, especially regarding your peculiarly obsessive hatred of CE.

Best quote I ever heard about newspapers, from "Yes Prime Minister":

Sir Humphrey: "The only way to understand the Press is to remember that they pander to their readers' prejudices."
Hacker: Don't tell me about the press, I know exactly who reads the papers: The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country; The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country; The Times is read by people who actually do run the country; The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country; The Financial Times is read by people who own the country; The Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country; and The Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is.
Sir Humphrey: Prime Minister, what about the people who read The Sun?
Bernard: Sun readers don't care who runs the country, as long as she's got big t*ts.

Excellent, GDK. Great scene.

Personally think it might not have been a happy time for Chris, but he doesn't resent Who and is, quite rightly, proud of what he did and enjoyed the character. Don't care whether he watches Who.....I mean, Tom Baker never did! Bet the beggar didn't watch Day of the Doctor! Who....Knows, eh? Who......knows?

Stating the blinking obvious, it's not a prerequisite of playing the role to be a fanboy/girl/small furry creature from Alpha Centurai.
