Next time you get a call & no one is there, hit the # key
6 or 7 times as quickly as you can.
These calls are usually telesales computer generated
Hitting the # key confuses the computer & your number is deleted from the system
It's quite amazing sometimes what people will believe.

Just had another one. From the Windows Support Centre in London. Apparently.

I sometimes like to play along, but couldn't be arsed today. Suggested they could go and try their scam on someone a bit more ignorant than me. And to have a nice day of course. Manners cost nothing.

Ha! Ha! I bet they were happy with that. The sad things is, they'll be loads more people for them to scam in the world. Some people who've been using the internet for 3+ years still haven't a clue when they're being told lies that they should know aren't true.

ive not had any for a while... the last one went a bit like this:

I answered and when they proclaimed they are seeing errors i decided to sit back and play the OMG thicko - a few reallys and OMGs later they proceeded to tell me it was very damaging etc.
It was then great fun following their instructions extremely slowly, turn on.off etc. (at this point i think i was watching dr who)

As soon as they thought they made progress i dropped in the key phrases "do i need my PC turned on?" "Let me just plug the PC in" "So this isnt on my skybox?" "Whats a router" "It says error 404, do i need the internets on?" "It says windows has encountered an error" "Can i use firefox?" etc etc

At the point of them reading the part of the script loading up error reporting i was sat in the erm... "Shitbox" quite furiously laughing at myself and my achievement with a flatulating background noise.

Hitting on one hour and me finally (lol) getting bored i did some checks on the website they wanted fools to go to (the logmein support site), it then said the other end was using a trial version. This was lockdown, router plug at the ready, sandbox ready, kaspersky on crack etc. I gave them view only access and dicked about typing funny words on a notepad - they were shocked that it was not me typing, obviously lots of "errorings".

I then gave them full access and i was ready - as soon as they attempted to move the mouse it was BOOM, total network traffic lockdown. 15 minutes of "its loading up, it said there was an error on a blue screen" i decided i couldnt be bothered anymore and proclaimed how stupid they were for thinking i was stupid.

5 minutes later they hung up... aaawwww

Last year I answered the phone and got a variation of this. I forget the name of the company he said he was with and I should point out a couple of things - First; I can a like with dog without a bone if people blanant ignore something I asked and Second; We have 2 Windows Laptop and 2 Mac's

Him - Hello, I work for ??? I am calling on behalf of orange and I would like to talk to you about internet security. This is not a cold call I promise (this of course makes me go oh yes it is in my head)

Me - Hello, to whom did you wish to speak to?

Him - This isn't a cold call call I would to talk to you about internet secruity. I am from ??? and we work with Orange; Did you know that everytime you go on the internet you PC picks up.........

Me - Sorry, but who did you wish to speak to?

Him - hm. I can talk to you its fine.Did you know that everytime you go on the internet you PC picks up.......

Me - but what is the name of the person you rang up to speak to? You could have alled a wring number by mistake.

Him - do you have a laptop?

Me - Yes, we have several thank you, but you still havent told me who you rang up to speak to.

Him - hmm Every time they go on the internet Windows laptops pick up viruses and trojan.....

Me - Whoa there! 1, You still have not told me who it was you were ringing and 2, this is not a windows household.

Him - you dont have windows laptops?

Me - No, still waiting for you to tell me who it was you rang for though.

Him - Sorry, bye.

Not had a call like it since. My father takes great delight in playing along with call callers and then booting the boot in

He is in his 70's and one day he got a call about stair lifts so he let them go on about them, how good they were and the benefits of them etc and he is agree with them. The guy then says about placing an order now so dad says well its not something that he would need to which the guys says something about dads age etc etc etc so dad replies yes I understand all that, they sound great but no point in him having one. This must have confused the man as he ask dad why to which dad says I live in a bungalow, hello, hello, hello are you there?

When this took place my mother and I had to keep leaving the room as we kept cracking up with laughter.

I've had 2 of these the last one was just a few weeks ago, and very odd too. I strung him along pretending to go to a website until he asked what can you see on your screen, so I said it says Tell The Scammers To ****Off. He replied ****you too and hung up. The phone rings again so I answer it and immediately hang up. This happens about 3 more times and eventually I say Hello. This time it's a womans voice and she says I love you and hangs up!

Earlier in this thread there was the mention of phone numbers on websites being sold on.

I was using a website which insisted on a landline number before you could get past the home page. There was no reason for them to have it as I didn't need a phone reply. I wanted a bit of info about the company but did NOT want any phone calls.

Tried leaving off a couple of digits and it said there was an error. I then just punched in 98765432101 and it accepted it. Seems it was happy with any old 11 digits. Just don't start with 0 or you may give them someone else's real number.

Haven't had any phone calls from them

Well I recorded the call, wish I was witty enough and subtle enough to have kept them on which I will try to do next time, even Teamviewering on a dummy computer such as a virtual machine to see what they were trying to do. Apparently it is to take a Paypal payment of possibly $200 whilst pretending to go through a load of supposed errors on your computer - http://www.mediafire.com/listen/eoc4...r+scammers.MP3

If you talk to these muppets you get put on a 'sucker list' that is sold to other scammers. My neighbour almost fell for this racket, but hung up when they asked for money. She now gets several calls a week.

This matter has been covered in quite a few news outlets. While it's good that Jamil was fined and got a criminal record, he should have received a custodial sentence as full punishment and to deter others.

I would just be happy for his home phone number to have been published

Usually I've hung up on these... Occasionally I've sworn at them first.

Recently, though, I've been trying something a little more subtle: asking them questions.

Like: "do your family know you lie for a living?", or "did your parents teach you to lie and cheat people, or did you learn that for yourself?"

They seem kind of surprised! But it also works - they quickly realise they may as well go. I'm happier, because I've got to tell them what I think of them. And, who knows, maybe there's a 1/1000 chance that I'll make them feel slightly guilty. (Okay, 1/1,000,000.)

(If you can think of any questions along the same lines, please let me know.)

First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong discussion forum.

This morning i had a Indian person phone up claiming he was from Windows. He told me i had Malware/viruses on both computers and that they are highly dangerous. We have had viruses before but never has a person from Windows phoned up to say we have them.

What makes it more odd is that they`re asked for me and not the main person of the house and that they`re are a Indian..calling from Windows.

I would like to know if this is a scam or what is going on really.

Thank You.

This is a scam - ignore all similar calls, or if you have the time and inclination play along with the caller but never do what they tell you to do or give them any bank details.

When they called me I stumped them when I asked which computer. They asked how many I have. I said 25.

Oh, she said.... its the line that the viruses are on and are trying to get into your 25 computers. Im like.... you mean they are like spiders or cockroaches crawling up the inside of the wire?

She hung up.

Cant think why.

Just put the phone down on them. This is definitely a scam. There's no way that they could possibly know if you have or haven't got malware on your computer. They're just parasites.
