Your PC is infected. Oh dear. That's bad, could you control my PC remotely to clean it? Oh yes, thank you, you are a very helpful man. Yes, everyone says that. Would you just like my bank details to save time? Wow, thank you. Where are you? Doncaster. Oh I'm from there, Gullableshire is very nice isn't it? <Click> |

I had a spate of calls a couple of weeks back, and had a little giggle with one Indian sounding lady -

Exactly the same thing happened to me in January, I did exactly the same and strung him along until he tried to get me to connect via a remote access site.
After refusing to click on any links and telling them what I thought of their scam they called my a bastard and hung up ![]() Made me day. |

I just had a call from a woman with an impenetrable Indian accent. I just about made out that she was calling from BT about a problem with my PC. Everything else was incomprehensible.
Seriously, if these scammers can't employ people with basic language skills, how do they expect us to have any fun with them?😏 |

I had one yesterday.
Hello. I am calling from Windows. Really? Yes, really. I am calling about your computer. I don't have a computer. Lakalalalalalalal (very loudly). Your father is a mother******, your mother is a mother******.... (Calmly) My parents are dead (ages ago) Your son is a mother****** Yeah. I don't have kids (never wanted any). At which point I got bored and hung up whilst he was still throwing juvenile insults around. Honestly, are they 15 years old or something? However I think I am going to invest in a whistle so that next time I can blow it down their ears. |

microsoft hackking issue concern
just had a call from MS warning me i had issues with hackers getting in to my system ,whats going on here? i was asked to download teamviewer & possibly install it? but when i finally got round to getting this done ,the line hung up.
a part of me feels it was not MS but the hackers themselfs doing what one would see on rough traders trying to talk there way into peoples personal details as a form of distraction ,while the others work on hacking what they can get. & when they are done ,they get away fast. please hope this is not the case here?

Its definitely a scam. Microsoft don't call people like this. See the pinned threads above this one about unsolicited calls.

You will never ever in the entire lifetime of the Universe receive a call from Microsoft Technical support or whatever they care to call them selves today. Have you not seen the mega sticky at the top of this forum? It is a scam.
if they call back just hang up. And never ever install anything that they ask you to. At best all they want is a fee for doing bugger all to fix a fault that doesn't actually exist. At worst they install some malware that harvests things like online banking logins in an attempt to empty your account. |

What l would suggest doing is running a full antivirus scan plus doing a scan with free Malwarebytes and that should pick up and remove any malware if it got on your PC.

In 99.999999999999999999999999999% of cases there is nothing at all wrong with the computer of the person they call up. They get you to look at various Windows logs and the like and point out loads of Warning or Error entries that in the vast majority of cases mean bugger all is seriously wrong! They are just trying to scare the uninitiated into installing teamviewer or similar remote control software to get onto your machine for the true purpose of the call which is to part you from your money for no good reason. They either charge you a fee for not doing anything remotely useful or necessary or install malware to try and get into your bank account. That is the sole purpose of the call. The "faults" they point out are in the vast majority of cases nothing of the sort and certainly nothing to get even remotely concerned about. As said they have zero interest in whether your PC is working perfectly or riddled with every virus and malicious software ever invented. They certainly have no interest at all in fixing anything that may be wrong, even if there is genuinely a fault. That is no concern of theirs. The money they can part you from is their one and only motivation. |

If it did come from there then when you installed/ran it they would have asked you to read out the numbers shown on the screen (user id / password). Did you tell them what they were? If you gave them the numbers then you need to check for damage. Anti-virus; Malwarebytes and finally Hitmanpro for a third opinion is probably worthwhile as well. Most of the time however it's not about them doing bad things to your PC, it's about showing you the event logs etc to scare you into thinking something is wrong when it isn't - so you hand over your credit card details If you hadn't - then they would not have had access at all and you can relax, and maybe draw comfort from this story http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/08...scam_takedown/ Quote:
Vengeful security boffin Ivan Kwiatkowski has infected the computer of an Indian tech support scammer with the Locky ransomware. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technical_support_scam for further info
Kwiatkowski inflicted the virus on the scammers after they attempted to fleece his parents. The retaliatory strike was easy for the French malware analyst; during a phone call with the scammers he sent through what he claimed was an image of his credit card which, when opened by the scammer, unleashed the Locky ransomware. While his ability to watch the bloodbath ended with the scammer hanging up, it is that Locky, rated the world's most prolific email-borne threat, ripped through the scammer's machine encrypting large swathes of files and possibly travelling through the network to encrypt other machines and connected local and cloud drives. Kwiatkowski (@JusticeRage) set sights on the scammers after his concerned parents phoned bearing reports that their computer was apparently infected with Zeus, according to a fake virus infection advertisement. |

It's worth checking your prowser history and making sure it was the legit version of teamviewer i.e came from this site https://www.teamviewer.com

ok i think now i understand this better. the teamviewer they got me to download ,never got installled, they only real conern of mine was my online bank account ,for which the passwords etc have now been promptly changed. the only thing they got to was thne pc adress code which they read to me from there end. minus that ,thats it.
What do you mean by PC Address Code? If you mean the IP address then that is one allocated by your router and is (or should be) invisible to the internet. If they got you to visit some website they control they could see the IP address of your router which may be what they told you. Or it was some code to put into Teamviewer to give them access. |
