CR - Faye's voice
I think I could sympathise with the misfortunes of Faye if it wasn't for that awful whiney voice.
Poor girl, does the actress really sound like that or is it put on for the character?

Most of the female characters have whiny voices.
We have Faye, Sarah, Bethany, Sophie and Fiz. |

I'm not sure how the actress sounds in real life, but Faye has a terrible inflection at the end of most statements or sentences in that the end of her last word is pitched much higher to her 'normal' voice. I work a global firm and have noticed it's typical in a lot of Americans and Canadians who've settled in the UK and it drives me absolutely insane! God knows how the actress has picked it up, but I hope she grows out of it. She's doing quite well otherwise.

Faye's 13 years old!!! I've never had kids but even I know that early teenagers can be whiny & monotonous, that's normal teenagers, never mind those who've had the sort of upbringing Faye's had!!
Ellie Leach does a really good job playing the part for me!! For the record Anna, Beth, Sophie, Sally & worst of all Fiz have far more whiny voices than Faye imo!! |

That said, her inflection does bother me. Similarly Craig’s accent bothers me. Given that the actor hasn’t lived in the north of England for many years he has a distinct southern twang that grates on me. His accent is a soft northern similar to somewhere like Derbyshire or Nottingham, not the backstreets of Salford. |

I can't stand that sort of up and down,sing-song inflection of Faye's - it makes her whining even worse. I don't like Faye much, though she has seemed ok in scenes with Tim and Sally. I much prefer Bethany.
I saw the Faye actress, being herself, on a TV show and she looked a lot prettier and happier than Fayemian. She was quite giggly and I don't think her voice was as irritating

There must have been a queue of talented young girls applying for the role of Faye, so why was this girl chosen? A few days ago, she flounced into the room, whined 'I 'ate you !!' and flounced out again. This is an example of her lack of acting ability. There are some good young actors in Coronation Street - Craig is amazing, young Amy is becoming a mini-Tracy, Max is improving and Dev's twins are showing promise - but Faye isn't one of them..

I think the actor who plays Craig, is capable at best. He receives a lot of praise but I just don't see it personally. Amy seems to overact her lines, and seems to be constantly waiting for her next line to come in before she forgets it. |

That is the beauty of a forum, notdebbiedingle, we all get to state our opinion amicably; as the saying goes, 'You can't please all the people all the time'.
![]() We all have our 'soapbox' characters!! Mine is Tracy, yours is obviously Faye, Sam-Gee's is Anna & ewoodie's is Michelle to name just four i can think of off the top of my head!! That's fine by me & makes interesting reading & debate, the posters who tend to annoy me are those that claim only one character is worth watching in a soap!! If that's the case why on earth waste precious time watching it & posting on the forums about it!! Always puzzles me that one!!

Gosh this poor young actress has copped a lot of nasty comments on DS. I hope she never reads this site as most of the comments are just plain mean. I would like to hear the 12/13 y.o. voices those who wrote the such negative comments.

I so agree with you..there are ways of passing a comment without being nasty when it's regarding a young person............
Having said that, I'm with those who think she did far better than most people were expecting. She has talent, but hasn't had the opportunity to display it before. Sitting on the stairs eavesdropping, or running upstairs to her room didn't test her ability. |

The fact that that the actress is so different in real life shows how well she's doing in the role.

The cynic in me says it involves her being the cousin of Brooke Vincent AKA Sophie Webster. However, I may be completely wrong and learn that she has been coached in acting and got the audition and subsequent role from her own efforts. Hmm.

As the OP, I'd like to point out that it is only her voice which really does grate. Her acting ability is good and improving all the time, but if I was the casting director I would definitely be put off by her voice, even if she proved to be a good actress.

Anyone who decides to take up acting for a career is putting themselves up for judgement. By all sorts of people, from casting agents to the public. Why should someone's age make a difference?

Poor girl, does the actress really sound like that or is it put on for the character?
