The boring "gay boy" struggling with sexuality storyline
Its so old hat now and has been done a million times and on the same soaps!
![]() Can the writers not come up with something a little more original. Why would a gay boy care what others think, just hook up with a lad online and get some c**k action, its no big deal. |

What storyline are you particularly referring to just out of interest?

I'm guessing you're referring to Harry in HO?! Todays episode was utterly embarrassing for him and Tony, banging on about grandkids!

There are sadly thousands of young people struggling to come out so I think it's good to have regular story line about sexuality

It's an important story that needs to stay at the forefront imo. It encourages people to come out.
Look at Johnnys last year. |

As always with Hollyoaks, it's great to see such strong storylines....it's the way they are played out that's the problem. We don't know much about Harry and yet we're supposed to care?

If we are talking about HO and Harry's story, yeah its been done before. However, its a teen/young adult soap. All soaps like that tend to repeat certain storylines over and over. Coming out storylines, teen pregnancy, bulling etc. are importaint to the youngest teen viewers.

Gay men have feelings too you know, and not all gay men just 'hook up with some lad online and get some c**k action'. Gay men have feelings too and have serious relationships much like straights do. If you'd of said something like a gay man trying to meet someone or date someone that would have been a bit better. Just be careful on your wording, you may offend a lot of readers unintentionally. Awareness of these storylines needs to be there. The Johnny storyline in EE last year helped many (including myself) accept their own sexualities and come out. Execution of those storylines of course is important, and every gay character (and person) is different and has a different story. |

The OP is the reason these stories need to be told.
My parents still have a massive issue with my sexuality and our relationship hasn't been the same since. That said, it was because of EE's recent storyline that I decided to come out - "who cares what others think" is incredibly naive and easier said than done. |

The Johnny storyline in EE was probably the most well executed gay/coming out storyline of recent years, and though things are different now and people see me somewhat different I wouldn't go back into the closet if I was paid to. I love Johnny and Sam Strike for how they helped me last year and to this day. |

I think JP's involvement in this storyline is bringing it down. From the off there's infidelity on his part. For me, it takes away from it being Harry's story. Why couldn't JP just have helped and given advice as he's been in the same position? No - he has to kiss him and be involved that way.

Similarly to Harry, I have been that boy, doing exactly what he's doing, playing at being one of the lads and secretly feeling like the most lonely and disgusting individual in the world.....yet his story, once again doesn't resonate with me and I don't know why

What a horrible thing to say! Not knowing who you are is an awful situation to be in and can leave you depressed and extremely confused. For many people it's very hard to talk about their sexuality so when a soap has storylines about coming out and acceptance then it allows for conversation to be had. One of the major issues in today's society is a lack of openness to talk about issues and in particular LGBT acceptance. A soap is perfectly right to have storylines about gay characters and coming out. People who are struggling need to have someone to talk to and these stories can allow this to happen!

You make a great point here and I'm sorry to go slightly off course but the playing out of Porsche's abuse storyline has even been piss poor. The actress actually did a decent delivery of her lines, but I was totally unmoved by them, and then when she had the audacity to pimp out her own husband I curled my lip in disgust and changed the channel. I don't like Porsche or Lockie so their tale of woe means nothing to me.

I agree - Porsche and Lockie could have been great, but they got married after a few weeks on screen and before we even try to care about them, Lockie's cheated...again! That's the trouble with HO these days - it's extremely difficult to invest in characters and even harder to invest in relationships.
Maybe it's because we hardly know Harry? |

I do not watch Hollyoaks....so cannot respond to this in the same way.
But I I have seen Emmerdale cope with gay guys - Aaron, Rob, Finn, Darren etc, and they are treated as normal guys within the society. (within reason - in some cases! )
