I see there is a Polish Deli in the show but no Polish Family?

It would be nice to have a Polish Family in the future.

I'm guessing it's EE, but the Polish Deli is never used as a set. It's just a façade isn't it?

I like how you don't have to the put the name of the show you mention, we are just supossed to assume it's Eastenders

I think it would be exceptionally difficult to truly reflect the East Ends diversity, there is such a multitude of ethnicities!!

Aleks character should have been first Polish and second a more accurate representation of a Eastern European worker in the UK, i.e. not in a public sector management position and in a more service based role, like work in the Caf or The Albert or somewhere.
I think one character should come in and see how it works, actually played by a Pole if possible and then maybe bring in others but I don't think landing in a Polish family would work. A hunky doorman for R&R or The Albert from Poland maybe

A major problem with introducing characters from ethnic minority backgrounds is that the majority of the writers are white British and so there'd be the risk that any Polish family would actually just be a white British accents with funny names and accents - the writers just wouldn't have the experience to write for them.
Also, would this Polish family speak English at home, in front of their Polish relatives? It always bothers me how Aleks and Marta speak English to each other instead of Latvian when she's supposed to be terrible at the language. Also Ineta's accent mysteriously vanished in a couple of weeks. |

The inconsistencies with how she speaks english is a bit dire......and it isn't realistic that they speak english together, but of course they have to because it's EE and noone would be able to understand Latvian! |

EE has a big problem with bringing in non English families it seems, Aleks, Marta and Ineta could have ben a good family unit but they are now leaving. EE is playing safe with its white working class domination of characters.

I mean, in all honesty, who would you rather have as the majority in EE. People like Cora, who are typical East End, or people like Aleks wife and daughter, who have not been able to integrate in the square at all, and imo just have seemed little more than extras, and wouldn't be able to hold any type of storyline due to their disadvantage of not speaking the language! |

They may well be playing it safe, but if it works..........
