We didn't know that the Nun she visits was called Mary, though.

The name could be a coincidence, but she could be Nan Slater.

Why?

Kat wants to find answers so she visits the convent to see a nun who has a possible link to Kat's past and just might be able to help her.

Nothing ridiculous about that!

It was back when the suicide storyline was announced that Kat would be visiting a nun (June Whitfield). Filming pictures were also released last month.

I'm so glad they're having her address her past properly this time. I hope there is counselling involved as well - this is a great way to give Kat a fresh, healthy start as a character eventually and opens up so much more potential for her as a character.

Well if there is a plausable connection to her past then fair enough but otherwise it's just odd IMO.

Well it hasn't been shown yet, so why pre-judge? If you don't like the story after it airs then fair enough. Until then, why not reserve judgement.

I personally am looking forward to this, it's something different.

Because visiting a convent, unless there is a plausable reason for doing so would be such an unusual thing to do for anyone who isn't religious, in particular a character who hasn't had anything religious written into their storyline before. And I reserve the right to pre-judge should I wish to do so

Well there must be some kind of connection else why would Kat go there?

I mean, she's hardly religious is she?

I'm looking forward to it too, I can't wait to find out what the connection is!

I know a lot of people are disappointed with the handling of Kat's story so far so I'm hoping these episodes place Kat right at the centre and deliver the strong material people were hoping for.

You don't need a strong connection to visit a convent .
They are often homes to nuns who used to work as teachers or as nursing sisters in the community and 'civilians' often drop by . I used to regularly visit a nun who taught me in my early teens . She had kind of taken me under her wing and we stayed in touch over the years .
It is quite common to find nuns with exceedingly high levels of extended education, with degrees in Psychology for example .
Perhaps Kat spent time in a care home run by a religious order during her chaotic childhood and remembers one of the nuns as being supportive of her .

I'm a big Kat fan but I know they will do the storyline justice. I'm very patient and we have to remember it's a long journey for Kat . Can't wait for Kat and Alfie to have more scenes together

So the latest twist in the plot is simply to shoehorn in June Whitfield. June Whitfield as a nun. It sounds like a Carry On scene that never was.

Isn't this an exit arc?

I hope not. Kat is still one of Eastenders best characters and it would be a real shame to lose her. DTC is no fool and I would think he'd want to hang onto a BAFTA nominated actor such as Jessie Wallace. She is top draw.

Obviously I don't know, but what I think is with the Carters still dominating right now and the really big Kathy/Beale/Mitchell story coming up there isn't going to be much space for Kat for the next 6 months. DTC probably knows that Jessie deserves better than to just float about in the background so she'll be given a break from the show - a chance to do other things as well as film the spin off - and then she and Alfie will be reintroduced at a later date when the Carter dominance has settled down more and the Kathy reintroduction has been sorted out. Then Jessie/Kat can come back to the fore where she belongs - no point just having her there making up the numbers if there isn't any space and Jessie deserves opportunities to show her talent elsewhere. I think this little break gives everybody the best of both worlds and Kat will be back a refreshed character ready to kick serious arse. The spin off should get both her and Alfie back to their best.
