I like the Carters bar Linda and Lee, who I just can't warm too. I have gone of Mick recently and I am indifferent to Nancy - but I like the rest - Shirley, Babe, Sylvie, Buster and Tina.
I think that they have got a little lost in this rape story. In order to keep it going, they are having to rinse and repeat the same scenes whereas if what was happening now, had happened a few months back when it was revealed, then it would be fine. I think it is more the writers/storyliners than the characters themselves. Once the rape story progresses a bit, they will be fine - having said that, Mick's sulky face and Linda's worried face are starting to grate.
I will be happy once Shirley and Buster know the truth about Dean, though I hope they don't continue to support him but take measures to get him help or something? I do think Dean loves his mum. I'd like to see Shirley reconcile with Mick/Linda so we can explore the mother/son dynamic a bit more, as well as dad and son too. I'd like to see more of Shirley and Buster as a couple - I actually find them more entertaining, and interesting than Mick and Linda - there is fire there. Integrating the Carters within the square more is a good move as, imo, the problem is that they are always together - their storylines haven't really needed any outside characters and therefore they feel quite separate from the rest, however if tptb did integrate them more now, then they would just be said to be 'shoehorned' everywhere.
However, I do like them and I wouldn't want them to leave the show.
I do think there has been so many threads on this and an idea to merge them all is good but naming it 'the Carter bashing thread' was ridiculous, imo.
