Ah, but did you love them when it was cool to hate them?

Fair enough.

Christmas was a load of tripe. I couldn't believe DTC has sunk that low. In one episode he trivialised and sensationalised rape in the name of entertainment. Shame on him.

No, I might be a bitch but I pride myself on my consistency

Edit: Thought this was the favourites thread, to which I answered Kevin.

Who grates? Most of them. I've gone for the ones that grate currently in the poll, although I've liked some of them previously (Shirley, Tina) and let off ones that aren't annoying me now but have done (Nancy.) Otherwise I'd probably pick them all...

Christmas was awful! The Beales got little screen time that episode and nutmegs all about the rape.
And for ages before hand the show was almost all carters

Boxing day was much better. Christmas was essentially all about Danny Dyer and Mick/Linda - plus I lost some respect for the EastEnders team using rape as a way to win ratings. I think that Christmas should have been shared between the families and the big Carter story to have been Mick/Shirley reveal! What would have been good would have been if Sylvie had inadvertently spilt the beans over Christmas dinner. I was looking forward to the Mick/Shirley reveal but it got completely overshadowed and I still disagree with using rape for ratings.

Well said. I preferred Boxing Day than Christmas Day. Christmas Day was indeed all about Danny Dyer. DTC decided that Danny Dyer deserved to have the big Xmas story but I wished other families had equal screentime as the Carters. It was inapproapriate because they wanted to sensationalise(if that's the right spelling) the rape reveal. Danny Dyer gave many interviews and hyped up the xmas episode. Even worse, the reviewers said it was better than than the 2007 Xmas episode. I suppose it's nothing new because the xmas episodes every year do get hyped. I was immensely let down by the xmas day episode but I was very pleased with the Boxing Day episode.

If they do another big Carter Xmas episode this year, I won't believe the actor's statements . I'm just hoping this year's Xmas will feature several families - the Beales, the Fowlers, the Carters, the Foxes, etc. Not just the Carters.

I remembered Jake Wood saying all of the cast was shocked deeply when they found about Max' secret and he said it was as good as the 2007 episode

Use to be a fan but they just seem hollow vessels these days. Sad.

Boxing Day was better and kick and Linda left that episode until mid jan. if this years Christmas is all carters again in will stop watching until dtc leaves.

I think the New Years Day episode was better than both Boxing Day and Christmas combined.

I am surprised any new actors want to join East Enders, unless you are a Carter you have very little chance of much air time. I quite liked them at first, but now enough is enough. Its time some other characters had a main storyline. No doubt when Linda gives birth it will be on and on about "who is the daddy"! BORING

Tbh Nancy, lee, babe, slyvie (and Johnny when he was there) were never that bad and were usderused like most other characters. Tina I think is used well but she needs a break soon. Shirley, mock and Linda are becoming too much.

I agree about why anyone would want to Join in a non Carter role. It really is of you aren't a 30+ Carter adult see you later.

They all grate on me in their own way but Mick and Nancy definitely stand above all others as the most irritating Carter family members. Both are omnipresent (much like the rest of the family) but their mannerisms and acting styles (if you can call that acting in Nancy's case) truly gets under my skin.

As much as I can't stand The Carter Show the most grating character in the show by far is Fatboy. Just kill him already.

Fatboy is harmless but is pointless arm I think

I like the Carters bar Linda and Lee, who I just can't warm too. I have gone of Mick recently and I am indifferent to Nancy - but I like the rest - Shirley, Babe, Sylvie, Buster and Tina.

I think that they have got a little lost in this rape story. In order to keep it going, they are having to rinse and repeat the same scenes whereas if what was happening now, had happened a few months back when it was revealed, then it would be fine. I think it is more the writers/storyliners than the characters themselves. Once the rape story progresses a bit, they will be fine - having said that, Mick's sulky face and Linda's worried face are starting to grate.

I will be happy once Shirley and Buster know the truth about Dean, though I hope they don't continue to support him but take measures to get him help or something? I do think Dean loves his mum. I'd like to see Shirley reconcile with Mick/Linda so we can explore the mother/son dynamic a bit more, as well as dad and son too. I'd like to see more of Shirley and Buster as a couple - I actually find them more entertaining, and interesting than Mick and Linda - there is fire there. Integrating the Carters within the square more is a good move as, imo, the problem is that they are always together - their storylines haven't really needed any outside characters and therefore they feel quite separate from the rest, however if tptb did integrate them more now, then they would just be said to be 'shoehorned' everywhere.

However, I do like them and I wouldn't want them to leave the show.

I do think there has been so many threads on this and an idea to merge them all is good but naming it 'the Carter bashing thread' was ridiculous, imo.

Oh well, I can't see much wrong with the Carters myself. Maybe they have been too prominent, but they're still relatively new in soap terms.
If I had to vote on EE's biggest bores, Phil, Kat and Alfie would be in front of any of the Carter family. What more can be done with those characters that hasn't been done already ?

THe screentime they get is a major factor as well as how many stories they have going on at once while some character *coughs* Lola *coughs have none. Then it personal things individuals don't like.

You're in the wrong thread!

This is the Carter 'bashing' thread and you need the Carter 'worship' thread, or even better...

My very own 'neutral' thread!

Mick disgusted me tonight tbh but Linda is growing on me.
Can someone please kill mick off now!

I'm annoyed that mick is making this rape story go on (from the spoilers) by ruining Linda attempt to get a confession. Also they have actually admitted to shoehorning him into episodes he isn't needed... Disgusting.
