I had to look this up as I heard it the other day and thought it was really quite good but also thought it was a woman.

He was always Markus. That is his full birth name that he has on every document and passport. Even his Twitter account that he has for years now is MarkusFeehily.

So seriously, I don't get why it is such a big deal. Its ridiculous that every media asks him about this.

It is the first time I hear someone thought it is woman singing this song though, interesting

Ridiculous, that song is a total rip-off of Love Me Again by John Newman

I don't hear resemblance whatsoever I have heard comments that it reminds people of instrumental by Rob Dougan's work but it is not close to Love Me Again at all.

I have never followed Westlife or Boyzone (see I don't even know which of them he was in, unless I look it up) so that is why I didn't know it.

He became Markus Feehily when his parents named him that at birth.

I assume using his full name is a subtle way of distancing himself from his Westlife past. Debbie Harry suddenly became Deborah when she launched her solo career as well.

Yes, but the public have always known him as "Mark", I think if Elton John suddenly started calling himself by his birth name of Reginald, it would be an even bigger shock! Just an added few letters isn't all that big a change though.

Exactly, that like someone else mentioned Debbie naming herself Deborah when she went solo. It truly isn't a big deal, just a small detachment from Westlife days. Its not like he shorted the name like J. Lo. did or something

Markus Michael Patrick Feehily, to be precise

Slightly different. Mark isn't a stage name, it was just a shortened version of his full name.
