It has been confirmed in the last couple of days that Davros, the Dalek creator, is to return to Doctor Who this year.

Whether he will be played by Julian Bleach, is another matter.

It isn't confirmed at all. It is just an article quoting the Daily Mirror story. The title of this thread is wrong.

As far as I can see this is only a very vague rumour that has cropped up in the Daily Mirror, a piece of speculative 'reporting' based on precisely nothing whatsoever.
It has been re-run by some other papers as if it is a fact. But it is not.

Sounds like a prequel to genesis of the daleks. Should be good.

It has been pointed out that the story presented by The Mirror is similar to a rumoured Series 8 storyline supposedly under consideration, way back when.

There's no should about it.
Might, maybe, possibly, be good, at best.

At the moment, there is nothing confirmed about this story at all. Nothing beyond a vague rumour, probably started by misinterpretation at the Mirror and then flung around the online news sites as if it's a fact.

I might as well start a thread that says -
"Confirmed: Melanie Bush is returning" or
"Confirmed: The Kandy Man is returning"

Those statements are just as true as the story about Davros.

I wish they could get their facts right before posting on sites like that. It puts people's hopes up, then dashes them!

Edit - I've just noticed on the article, that they have got the year wrong for when Davros was last in DW. They say 2009, and it was actually 2008.

Well, the news is far from confirmed. Besides which, when Davros does reappear, he will almost certainly be in trailers and on magazine covers before the episode airs. Just like last time.

The chances of you watching the episode with no knowledge of Davros's return are virtually nil.


They probably just looked at the name Davros on IMDB and saw the 2009 credit for Doctor Who at the Proms.

Well if it is true, the story is supposedly about the Doctor meeting a young Davros, presumably before he was put in the fancy wheelchair, so it certainly won't be Julian Bleach!

It's a real problem with online 'news'. Stories can be repeated, and embellished, so very easily and appear on dozens of so-called news sites in the blink of an eye. Many online news stories are gathered from Twitter or forums such as this - where there is no way of verifying the story at all.

You'd hope that actual newspapers and their news sites would check their 'facts' scrupulously, but in the scramble to get more and more people clicking onto their sites, facts are becoming less and less important these days...

Well, it's not a spoiler so those complaining can sigh. It's speculation only at this point. Can't say I'm excited if it is the case. UNIT, Missy and Davros in the same episode? No thanks.

Either way, the chance to see the man when he was still called Dave Ross and had a mullet is something well worth looking forward to.

It's not confirmed, it's a rumour. There is absolutely no way they'd do this storyline; far too dark for a show kids watch to suggest the Doctor might murder a child. That's 15-rated stuff.

Well, it's a Mirror article, so it's going to use (or misuse) the word "murder" in a sensationalist way.

If there's any truth in the article, I would expect the story to involve the Doctor being put in a position where he has the option to let the child Davros die, rather than "murder" him in cold blood.

I just don't think they'd do it because this is a hero who kids look up to and even if the Doctor pondered whether to simply let child Davros die, the character would no longer be suitable for that demographic of the audience.

Whilst I don't think this is where they're going with Series 9, these were the exact same sorts of arguments they used when people began wondering where Series 8 was going with its themes of death and the afterlife. People said the show wouldn't venture there as it was too bold/mature a topic.

I don't think the show would ever depict The Doctor killing a child, but as a storyline I wouldn't put it passed them to go with it and resolve it with an ending that doesn't result in murder.

At the same time though, this small bit of dialogue from Kill the Moon might also indicate that perhaps they won't go there...
"I've never killed Hitler. And you wouldn't expect me to kill Hitler"
...so who nose???

The Master and Davros in the same series would feel cramped and OTT. Luckily it's just a rumour.

Series 8 featured The Master, Cybermen, the returning Paternoster Gang and the Daleks.

Series 7 featured the return of the Daleks, the Weeping Angels, the Great Intelligence, the Ice Warriors, the Cybermen, the Paternoster Gang several times and the Eye of Harmony. Not to mention River Song appearances, and references to both the Silurians (Dinosaurs on a Spaceship) and the Zygons (The Power of Three).

I've not been keen on a Davros return until now, but I think it would fit in here. Series 2 did Daleks and the Cybermen simultaneously so The Master and Davros could work as well...just in my opinion By including Davros and Missy early on I'd then hope that frees up the finale for something different for once, and also allows us to have a few Daleks appear early on to eliminate the need for a Dalek story later on, and also means that Missy isn't given centre stage so soon again (I like the character, but would love a different main threat).

That sounds great! Davros has a great potential and he really needs a good story.

I agree, Series 7 ranks as my least favourite after all. I'm just saying that an implication that The Master and Davros in the same series is overkill means little - Moffat has proven he'll throw far more than just that into a single series (either because of budget constraints, pandering to fan demands or something else)...not that I consider The Master and Davros together to be overkill myself anyway.
