Is DTC axing/keeping the wrong characters?
Aleks, possibly Cora, who next? Is DTC axing/keeping the wrong characters in the show?
Would Billy & Roxy had lasted this long they were not Mitchell's? Why has Tamwar been on the show for eight years but still as boring as ever? |

Did Cora potentially leaving for good really warrant another thread?

A lot of the characters are used as filler for Carter light weeks. But that said there are a hell of a lot of characters who have been nothing but glorified extras long before DTC became executive producer. If the writers aren't interested in these characters they should write them out and bring in or bring back some characters they are interested in. Familiarity is great and all but I'm hardly tuning into EastEnders to see Mo Harris, Billy Mitchell, Fatboy, Tamwar or Whitney.

Purely from a character standpoint Cora doesn't have a role at the moment. If some of her family come back maybe she will. If Kat goes Mo doesn't have a role. She's purely there as a character to facilitate a storyline. Laila Morse seems fine with being little more than an extra. A soap needs background characters not actors all wanting storylines.

I would definitely have kept Aleks and be doing all I can to retain Cora as Ann Mitchell is fantastic.
The only character who 100% definitely needs to go is Alfie. A lot of people don't see the point in the likes of Billy, Fatboy, Tamwar, Kim etc. and I can see that they certainly wouldn't be everybody's cup of tea. But they have always been more supporting characters. Back in the day the show seemed to revolve around Alfie (and Kat) in the way it is now perceived to focus on the Carters. I can't imagine any of the other main male actors like Steve McFadden, Jake Wood, Adam Woodyatt or Danny Dyer relegated to the sort of supporting role Shane Richie has these days. The character has run its course and needs to go before the "glory days" are tarnished. I get the feeling they are reluctant to axe these potentially iconic characters so I just wish Shane would quit. I would say on a high, but I think we've gone beyond that now. |

It's not about Cora it's about the show keeping on crap characters over good ones.

This thread is about Cora. If she wasn't possibly leaving then you wouldn't have created it.

Cora if she's leaving, I don't think is a bad thing. Aside from the involvement with Stan, she's always been a character the show has struggled to do anything decent with, so if she's going, it's not the worst that could happen.
Aleks had a lot of potential and worked well with Roxy and the Mitchells in general. I think it was a mistake getting rid of him so quickly, especially given that Roxy/Charlie will probably be a short term thing anyways. There are also characters like Lola, Billy etc who need more to do as well. |

I think they're axing the wrong characters, well at least letting the wrong ones leave. This year I've lost Aleks and Stan, two of my favourite characters over the last five years while others I'm not so keen on stick around. I'm going to miss Cora too if it's true that she's leaving, I'm getting worried about Eastenders now.

I've suspected this for some time, and recent events have only reinforced my suspicions: DTC only really cares about his 'own' characters and castings. It's why every character introduced by Kirkwood/Newman has been axed apart from Cora (who might be leaving anyway) and Lola (who is just a glorified extra these days) and why the Carters are front and centre of every episode. At the moment it feels like the Carters and then 'everybody else' playing second fiddle.
I haven't watched EastEnders for almost two weeks because I got totally fed up with the Carters. I've just read the spoilers and the Carters are the focus of the next few eps. So looks like I won't be tuning in next week either. |

I love Cora. I just think her character would be better suited to a horror film.

Timothy West and Sam Strike both chose to leave after only a year so DTC is 100% not responsible for that.
I loved Aleks but we don't know why he was written out - whether Kristian decided to jump ship or what. Emma was a plot device character and was always only there on the short-term. We don't even know Cora is leaving permanently - she always goes on a break, like many of the others do throughout the year - she's just gone off a good storyline that has made her more likeable than the vile old lush she's been for years so I think people are a wee bit premature at blaming DTC for her ~leaving. |

I think Timothy West was always going to be a short stay. He is an acclaimed theatre actor so it's not as if he needed EE desperatley to save his career. It has just allowed a young generation to discover him. Plus his wife is rather Ill anyway.
The Guy who plays Aleks may of left on his own accord to perhaps do other things in the UK, or maybe return to his native country. I looked him up on WIKI and he has tons of foreign credits to his name. Also, to the person above. DTC imo is resposible for Sam Strike leaving. The young lad jumped ship because he was underused and didn't know what to do with Johnny and Sam Strike has since confirmed this is why he left. So it is DTC fault. Johnny is his creation and he is the EP. So I think he is responsible. |
