Problem connecting to Vodafone 3g network

I've got a Nexus 5 and ever since the upgrade to Lollipop 5.1 I have been unable to connect to the internet when out and about on Vodafone. I always have the exclamation mark next to the signal icon which indicates a problem. I phoned Vodafone today but the call cantre operator wasn't able to help but sent a text telling me to connect to a different network then connect to Vodafone. That didn't help and I am still unable to get online away from home. Has anyone else had this problem since the upgrade?

Have you tried a factory reset on the phone?

Have you checked that the APN settings are correct on the phone?
