I worked with someone that every time he had a disagreement with someone at work and it got management involved he would accuse them all of being homophobic to get away with it

We had one the same in our dept. it got to the point where people only spoke to him if he spoke to them and then only yes or no answers if possible. Colleagues wouldn't "chit-chat" with him in case they said something that could be interpreted the wrong way and he ran to management or the CRE or such, and new starters/visiters were quitetly warned to be careful what they said to him or in earshot.
The company sick of him constantly waving the race card and causing grief and animosity among the work force eventually managed to suspend and dismiss him on a technicality despite his best attempts to cling on, as they had learned their lesson before and followed the law and procedure to the letter.
He was the sort of person when colleagues say "sorry to see you go/leave" they're lying !!!!

That was the most implausible and also hilarious bit about it. It wasn't like they'd booked in advance it was just an off the cuff request so instead of showing whatever chagrin they wanted and taking their business elsewhere they decide to go home

It is kind a of a crass thing to say though when you're booking the room whatever the sexuality of the person saying it.

People will do all sorts to get out of trouble and push the blame elsewhere but as long as there wasn't any homophobia in these instances then it shouldn't be a problem.

Well, Billy did mention later that he had to be out early the next morning. Which doesn't make any sense of their trip, really.
The other thing that was really clunky was the landlord saying 'well, i've only got a twin room left' sort of taking it for granted that they wanted a double, and THEN suddenly turning homophobic.

Sean makes most of his scenes cringe. When the landlord asked for a name, I expected Sean to say Mr and Mr Smith, before whipping his head round to gurn at Billy. The actor who plays him was in a drama series a while back and was fantastic. You're only as good as the 'tools' you work with.
I read in the magazine they were going to this storyline, but I didn't bother watching it as I knew Antony Cotton would spoil it. He can't act for toffee and I don't know why they persist in giving him storylines.
If they wanted to do this topical storyline justice, they should have done it with Todd who is played by a better actor.

I quite like the guy who plays the vicar. At least he can act unlike Cotton. That guy just ruins anything he's in. Why have none of the Corrie producers noticed over the years? TV would be a much better place without him.

I meant 5 years, not 50 years. Obviously there would have been issues 50 years ago, it was still illegal!
That case i remember being on the News was several years ago but there will have been others I'm sure.

Anyone would have been better than Anthony cotton, they could have brought uncle Albert back from the dead to do the homophobia storyline and it would have been more believable that giving Anthony Cotton any lines to say.

Not from my partner lol 😍she had booked a double bed for our room in Turkey two years go and when we arrived it was 3 singles. Then last year I had booked it this time and a different hotel again I booked I double bed and when we arrived it was two singles

I would certainly think that was deliberate
I do actually think this is a worthwhile and interesting story line but Corrie have just ruined it by telling it in such a shoddy and silly way and though I hate always blaming Sean, sadly he is incapable of taking on anything more than gossiping over tea and biccies in the factory.

Yes I do think it was deliberate but it annoyed us as there were 3 friends sharing a room who were girls in the same hotel as we were and they had a double and a single

The bigotry was instantly obvious, he only refused the room when they indicated that they'd be sleeping together. I think that someone else got it exactly right - if they'd been refused because of their colour you'd all be up in arms. Unbelievable

Totally agree with this! Imagine if the landlord had refused Tracy/Liz and Tony? Would it still be 'up to him?'
God this was yet another contrived, plot driven story line, which worst off all, made Sean even more hateful!

Well the poor bloke is certainly working with a tool now.
Is this the HUGE storyline that Mr Cotton was promising? The script was so awful that I couldn't have any sympathy for Sean and Billy as it was utterly unrealistic.

I have to agree. I feel that the storyline could have been a great example of a very real issue, but the poor dialogue and AWFUL hammy acting from Anthony Cotton really let it down. I actually laughed when he looked so aghast!

I agree.
As MsW said it was like a ludicrous public service announcement. It was so clumsy and badly written too.
Also I dislike Sean so much I find it very hard to be sympathetic which sounds horrible but I can't I just can't. 😃
I cringe at the Billy/Sean scenes. I normally love gay relationships in soaps but Sean is so cringey. I cannot believe Billy would fall in love for him, he is like a big kid. I was surprised that they hadn't slept together till the other night either, considering how long they have been 'dating'.
