5 main - Coronation Street, Eastenders, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Doctors
River City (BBC Scotland) and Pobol y Cwm (S4C Welsh language) have fewer viewers. You could count Holby City and Casualty in the continuous drama category rather than what you could term soap operas. |

Last male one was Christopher Ross and he was just a guest role. Charlie and Joey, short-lived girl couple.

The Bill maybe. I never counted Waterloo Road as a soap despite Digital Spy having spoilers on that section. Shameless fits in comedy/drama. If you go back a few years to Brookside and Crossroads.

Don't forget Eldorado, Night and Day and Family Affairs! |

The sooner that show gets new showrunners and producers, the better.

Aussie TV is more conservative but Neighbours has been better with Chris Pappas the first mainstream gay character.

There will be a transgender actor in Eastenders soon and Hayley Cropper and Blessing Chambers were our more recent exits. Dylan Jenkins will be in a cross dressing story which may lead to other LGBT issues led plots. |

Nate in Neighbours is a bit of a wet blanket so the show needs a new gay male character.
