In fairness, Gordon Brown meeting the public doesn't have that good a track record.
It tends to create PR disasters resulting in lost elections, so you know, you can sort of see why Remain wouldn't want to chance it.

My advice to them would be; keep the threats and promises of doom coming, it's having a great effect.

Whatever you do, don't sympathise with the worries that people have, or promise to radically reform the EU.

Honestly, as tacticians to get people on their side they're totally rubbish.

I read an interesting piece about how people have become caught up in national pride. I think this is what has happened. Lets see how happy people are when we leave the EU and nothing much changes. The Tories are not going to start investing 350 a day into the NHS so those caught up in that lie have been conned.

I have to laugh at Johnson today claiming the EU was behind the pasty tax.. I mean people are falling for this

Am I reading that correct?

One of our top remain posters on here backed UKIP in May 2015.

It is probably more of a statistical blip on a small sub sample.

Very true, if ever there was evidence of the Westminster Bubble, this is it.
Now I want more patronising Brown, that N London woman who hates White Van Man and England flags, and Corbyn telling unemployed Whitby and Geordie fishermen how the EU is saving the bees. Worn out Cameron and twitchy Osborne can stay holed up somewhere, hoping to blame it all on Labour.

Hopefully these polls take complacency away from the Remain side (and put it in the Leave side).

Senior Labour figures backing Remain will argue Cameron EU migrant deal is insufficient & new direct controls on economic migration required

Where is the positive case for the EU from the Remain campaign? It seems to consist entirely of threats and talking down the UK. Hardly something that is going to inspire the people.

Even if leave still lose l am very proud of the British public right now - they won't be scared, brow beaten, lied to and told what to think by people who think they are better than them.

It's really quite empowering.

Tbh I think Brexit will win. I think Remain lost it the second David Cameron fronted the campaign and not only proved once again he is a liar but actually contradicts himself at every turn. No one can believe a thing he says and the best outcome from all this will be him getting kicked out of Number 10 at some point over the next few months.

Everyone I know is voting Leave. I'm the only one out of my friends who has taken my vote seriously enough to research all outcomes. I'm voting to stay but if we exit that's what happens. I don't believe the sky will fall in should we Brexit. I'm sure we will be fine. My worry is the evil Tories such as IDS who will now be setting up new laws.

This is Labour... who started waving everyone in in the first place and said those who asked "Hang on a minute.." were racists and bigots? That's where they lost my vote after 40 years. This will cut as much ice as Cameron and Osborne's ghost train predictions.

And anyway, why would the EU agree to that?

It's the biggest silver lining. More people have seen just what shoddy liars some political leaders are. Perhaps in some future by elections we will get some Independent local MPs - that would be good.

^^ and speaking of liars. Did Boris really claim the pasty tax was because of the EU?

How can he get away with that? I hope people didn't actually believe it.

The Tories are the worst party in existence. I think I would even vote BNP over them. They are going to rip themselves apart when this is all over. Its the main thing I'm looking forward to now.

A particularly interesting bit of these polls is that it shows Leave voters are extremely enthusiastic about voting in the referendum but less so about voting in general elections.

It makes me wonder if people like my own family, who don't normally like to vote but will be voting Leave, are being underrepresented.

I remind you that I said it was related to the question 'what is going to win' not 'what I am going to vote'. So I can agree with you ...

Maybe so, pollsters use "models" of past behaviour to process the raw data from a tiny sample and extrapolate it to the whole country.

But there really isn't any past behaviour for this referendum, not recently any way.

I wonder if the Leave numbers are far higher than the estimations?

It goes for both sides. Both are scaremongering and telling lies. Brexit just don't have the clout of the big guns so their scaremongering gets less attention. Also voting a certain way just because you don't want to be "told what to think" is stupidity at it's highest.

Seems to be the exact way millions are voting though. And the scary thing is there's a real possibility it could destroy this country.

Yes when he said it Sky News were reporting the rally live so it went out to all their viewers yet no one seems to have picked him up over the lie.

Gove's vision of the UK is the 1950s. So if he is PM or chancellor once all this is over, you know what to expect.

Do you have a crystal ball or something? How do you know a leave vote will destroy this country? You don't know that anymore than I do.

Brexiters have always said that it isn't about the economy. Remainers are so worried about the economy and nothing but the economy, it seems they can't see beyond a two year period. Brexiters accept that a shallow recession may occur but it won't be catastrophic. If we were already in dire straits then yes, a Brexit could cause a big economic crisis, but we're not. Even experts predict a growth after the initial wobble, even though it might be at a slower rate than it might otherwise have been.

For Brexiters it's about the future and our family's security and our long term sovereignty. Sentimental claptrap to Remainers, but a matter of democracy for Brexiters. Why did the Scots want an independence referendum? Because some wanted to be able to stand strong and be proud of who they were. They weren't called names and racists for doing so.

Well of course this works both ways. I could say people who don't want to be "told what to think" by Brexit and are thus voting Remain is stupidity at its highest.
And there are people who genuinely feel they have been told what to think for years and what they can and can't say. I expect they are tired of it.
Anyway, I expect you want to head down the Brexit are thickos route, so adios for now.
