For some people, the actual question is:

Should the UK close the border:

1) Yes

2) No

I know that is stupid, but some people will base the vote on that.
Indeed...and this is the problem with the Out vote. This ref is not a ref about immigration. The problem is, many are using it for that purpose.

The problem is the infrustructure, the money is not going to put money in, but the people will still come, what is the working man to do?
This is my argument, I have no argument with people coming here but the government will not provide the money needed to sustain everyone. If we are in such financial need that we have to take money from disabled people then how are we going to provide the basics for the population to keep growing? I fully accept that successive goverments are to blame but if they are not going to finance the infrastructure then something has to give.

As the EU is a wannabe USSR, it's little surprise that you think the left support it.
A more apt comparison would be USA.

The vote is also about Sovereignty.

I don't want political union with other EU member states, we should be in control of our own affairs without anyone telling us what is best for Greece or Germany etc.

Will be interesting to see the turnout.

I think it's clear that people are far more engaged in the process when they feel their vote actually counts as opposed to the "safe seats and wasted votes" drudgery that is the General Election.

I hear Birmingham is expected to vote Remain but I'm from Birmingham and I know 50 people plus voting leave and not one person voting Remain. I am so shocked at the remain vote winning in the opinion polls. I have a feeling the people who have took part in these polls are not representative of the average working class public.... All to play for tonight!

No way! The US electoral system is so democratic it takes nearly a year to complete. The EU have token MEP's for show (the democracy stops there) and commissioners are chosen by politicians because they're buddies! That's exactly how the USSR operated, except without the tokenist MEP's.

They might model themselves on the USA, but they mirror the USSR.

We are an independent sovereign nation.

I assume as you are anti EU you are anti UK too. Both are unions, one comprises four nations, the other, twenty eight.

It's more likely you just coincidentally know 50 people who are voting leave, and nobody voting remain. Either that or you're so passionate about leave that the people you know just pretend they are backing leave to shut you up.

What time is the exit poll due? I can remember the surprise one that Yougov did for the Scottish Referendum not being released until 10.30 as the chief guy was unsure how accurate it would be. In the end it was the exact % as the final result.

There has been atrocious weather in London for the last hour or two with severe disruptions on several tube lines.

Just hope everyone manages to get home tonight - well after 10pm anyway.

Yep, West Berkshire is meant to go Remain too, yet I speak to hundreds of different people at work and only a tiny handful have said they're voting IN. It is all baffling.

I think you are right. I know this time my voice counts and matters. The rest of the time, it doesn't (being a socialist in a very right-wing constituency).

There isn't an official BBC ITV exit poll - but you gov are publishing their updated numbers at 10pm. They had it very close last night - we will see how the numbers have moved during the day

If Remain really wins then Tories must not be so keen on Brexit as we are led to believe. The shy factor again perhaps.

Indeed...no exit poll. I think it will be clear (fairly quickly) how many people voted. That will give us some idea how many votes are needed to win.

I am very anxious and nervous but excited too. It will be like Eurovision.

Quriosly? The phone app company has said they will be collating information all day and will provide an exit poll tonight. Their poll last night was 61% leave and 39% remain. So bonkers really!

There is no exit poll, as the BBC guy says, to do an exit poll, you need to base it on previous voting years, as this referendum has never been done before, it is impossible to predict.

Rubbish.

We cannot control immigration, we're forced to bail out Greece and other failing EU countries against the taxpayers wishes, we cannot control our fishing waters to the extent the entire fishing industry in the UK is decimated, cannot create trade deals around the world, pay VAT on fuel bills AGAINST the peoples wishes...

hardly sounds like an independent sovereign nation to me!!!

I think it depends where in Birmingham. Not all of London is voting remain - A few boroughs may back leave like Havering or Bromley.

Sutton Coldfield may well vote differently to the city centre for example.

It can all be very deceptive.
