How much do these firms charge for their polls

Seems like money for old rope

They would walk it, it will be a massive massive landslide.

No one is going to vote for Labour in its current form, they will go to UKIP instead, so Conservatives will win many more seats, because UKIP and Labour won't beat them even on a seat by seat basis.

It looks like May is going to end up as new leader, maybe Boris.

I think we can all agree these polls are now useless so discussing them is kinda pointless now.

Former: Seems not

The sad and tragic death of Jo Cox was a weird one: despite the outpouring of grief, despite the obvious attempts of her husband to try and use her death as an advantage towards Remain, people in her area seemed to vote Leave.

I don't think anyone did use her death as a way to boost Remain. It was all paranoia on behalf of many Brexiters and it still makes me feel very uncomfortable the lengths some went to in order to attack her grieving family. Another low for UK politics.

Are we seriously paying attention to the polls again? Seriously? Personally, I'll pass.

That is the response to the question...

"Do Scots Want A Second Independence Referendum Post Brexit?"

In response to the question..

"If there was a referendum tomorrow with the question Should Scotland become an independent country?, how would you vote?

the response was

"Yes 47%
No 41.2%
Undecided 10%"

excluding don't knows...

Yes 54% (+6)
No 46% (-6)

early analysis...

http://scotgoespop.blogspot.co.uk/

"This is by some distance the best ever showing for Yes in a Survation poll - the previous high watermark was 51%, which was in the only previous poll from the firm to ever show an outright Yes lead (in March of last year)."

Wow! I've bumped this thread because it's normally on the first three pages of the politics forum. But, due to a momentous political week, it had slipped to page 18! It might be a handy thread to check out once the Tory leadership gets under way!

Exclusive - tonight we publish a YouGov / Times poll of 1,200 Labour members about the state of the crisis engulfing Jeremy Corbyn

This will be interesting!

its totally pointless Momentum are getting everyone they can to join for 3 quid.
I truly don't think "traditional" labour voters give a toss anymore. He will win again
the party will split. question is if the rumoured 200 MP's break away does that mean Corbyn will be removed from the opposition

Whatever has happened, I don't see the polls changing between the parties.

Oh hello! First post-Ref (council) by-election throws a curve ball

Leatherhead North (Mole Valley):
LDEM: 56.6% (+27.4)
CON: 22.3% (-11.7)
UKIP: 10.3% (-7.9)
LAB: 8.9% (-5.7)
GRN: 1.8% (-2.1)

... don't know much about Leatherhead but I am assuming this is (VERY!) disappointed Remain voters venting some fury!

On a 30.1% turnout?

That's better than average for a council by election but hey-ho if Lib Dem voters believe a council by election will get the UK back into their precious EU.

2014 result:
But in Leatherhead North, a particulary tight race saw eventual winner Tory Councillor Howard Jones, who received 525 votes, battling it out with Adrian Daniels of UKIP, who got 512, and Lib Dem Christopher Lloyd who received 519.
Councillor David Preedy, Lib Dem group leader of Mole Valley councillors, said it was disappointing that the Lib Dems lost the seat.
He said: "It’s always been a very close seat, but a lot of people turned out to vote who didn’t vote in the past."

http://www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk/n...ection_battle/

Look like the Lib Dems got their act together in a seat they previously held.

I know. I have been involved in by elections and frankly most voters don't give a s**t about them.
There are so many variables
- Was there a local issue that got the LD vote out?
- Was the previous councillor unpopular or resigned for some reason?
- Is the winning candidate already a well known and popular personality in the area?
- Has their been a demographic change in the area?

I don't know this area so can't really comment.

And just how many of these new members will actually DO anything?

This is the party that brought you Nick Clegg, kept the Tories in power for 5 years and allowed then to do a lot of things I thought Lib Dems didn't like...

They didn't foresee how the Tories lead them into the slaughterhouse at the last election either.

Mole Valley is Dorking and Leatherhead areas. It was Kenneth Baker's seat and recently Paul Beresford's. Loads of wealth. Tory Heartlands. Big majorities. Lib Dems took control of the council for one year 1994-5 - otherwise Con or NOC. In 2005 the two Leatherhead Town seats saw the Lib Dems come 2nd and 3rd. Mole Vally voted Remain.

Thanks for that, probably explains what happened.

From a Nationalist perspective, I can see why Nicola is advocating another Scottish independence referendum. She is going to refer to "Scotland being dragged out of the EU against its will" every day for the foreseeable future.

What 62% of Scottish voters favoured was David Cameron's package of staying in the EU, staying in the UK and keeping the Pound. If independence from the UK in favour of staying in the EU, it would mean a border at Hadrian's Wall, and probably adopting the EU. (I think we can safely say that both London & Brussels would oppose Scotland using the Pound once Britain leaves the EU). So, maybe not 62% of Scots would want such an arrangement. I doubt there has been a poll on this scenario yet.
