A week before polling day in 1992 a batch of polls suddenly put Labour out in front. I'd take these with a pinch of salt. The only semi-reliable poll at this election is the poll of polls.

I doubt it if the Times story is true. It's a very good poll for the Tories though, and there have been quite a few five point leads for them now. But I agree with others that it's probably overstating green support and understating ukip support
Got a link to the story I've not seen it? Them %s would surely be enough for CON to hold power with LD / DUP support.

Labour are obviously going to be the next government.
The Conservatives have no chance, simply because they have no one to form a coalition with.

It turns out that being arrogant, closed-minded and ideologically driven is a "bad thing" in this multi-party age.

I would say that's a character flaw of the specific individuals leading the Conservative party right now. In the last 5 years they did everything wrong, politically-speaking.

Er I don't think so. Labour do not look like they will win enough seats to form a Government.

People's views don't change over night. So I would ignore this poll. We will have to see what effect Danny Alexander's comments make! They reckon 3 million postal votes have already been cast.

Combined with the latest Scottish polls:

Con 306
Lab 255
Lib Dem 11
SNP 56
Green 1
UKIP 0
Others 21

Just one other thing to mention about that Ipsos MORI poll - it only included people who are 10/10 certain to vote.
So Con 306 + LibDem 11 = 317
Lab 255 + SNP 56 = 311

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm interesting.

That simply can't be correct. If the Lib Dem's are on course to get only 11 seats there is also no way in hell they will go back into bed with the Tories. The coalition has all but destroyed them, they will be forced to rebrand and fight back as anti the Tory party their supporters always expected them to be.

Seriously. Anyone expecting the Lib Dem's to cosy up with the Tories if they lose over 40 seats is deluded.

Right, because Labour have been spot on about everything since 2010.

They said unemployment would rise; it fell
They said the economy wouldn't grow; in 2014 it was the fastest growing of any major country.
They said Osborne was cutting "too far, too fast" and now they're saying he hasn't cut the deficit fast enough.

Tories are leading in the majority of polls and Labour are "obviously going to be the next government". Ok.

Unemployment rose due to the amount of zero hours contracts.
He did cut too far, too fast. Services have suffered and he had promised to eradicate the deficit by now. What's happened to it?

George Osborne missed every single one of his own targets. I think he just got lucky. I liked Darling and I do think he had the better plan. I'm really not sure about Balls at all however. He is a major liability for the Labour party. If Labour lose this and the Tories can only form a minority Government Labour need to regroup fast in time for the obvious second election, get a new leader in place and easily get a majority. The polls prove people want to support Labour but don't have faith in Miliband or Balls. Labour need to get their house in order and push them aside. Balls may stand down anyway if Cooper is pushed into the leadership.

Its a big shame Alan Johnson won't step up. He would have won it for Labour with ease.

No it didn't, and only 2% of jobs are on zero-hours contracts.

An awful lot of people unemployed no longer claim JSA purely because of the way you are treated. After 6 weeks you are sent on a life skills course regardless of how clever you are. Many just don't put themselves through it so are living off their family.

I was on JSA after graduating with a good degree, and attended one such course organised by the JobCentre Plus. And guess what? It helped me get a job.

Maybe you were just lucky. Can I ask which scheme it was?

Oh right yes I had seen that, I still expect them to go into coalition with the Tories if the numbers allow but we'll see.

I cannot remember the name of the scheme, but it was a two day course focusing on interview skills and building confidence, and was very helpful.

Everyone in Labour wanted Johnson as their leader but his wife pleaded with him not to do it allegedly so unless she has a chance of heart it won't happen.

I agree he is Labour's true way of getting a full majority.

Two days? most of the courses we deal with last 2 weeks accept for those for the under 24s which can last for up to 3 months.

I've never heard of a two day one. Was it part of a private recruitment agency?

I think tonights debate will be the most important moment of this election in regards to all the polls.

I wouldn't take notice of a swing either way until then. Clegg will be revealing all about Tory cut plans, Dave will be banging on about the SNP and Ed will probably still harp on about the NHS. So its all to play for.

Really? Even if LDs at every level oppose a coalition? Well I guess we will see.

Yeah if the Lib Dem are down to below 20 seats that's a lot of senior Lib Dem's wiped out. This notion from Tories they will still then commit to a coalition with the Conservatives reads like fantasy to me. I simply can't see the party members allowing it.

I assume this is from a decade ago or more?
