Quick question. Which tablets on the market today have a mini HDMI output?

I know the Hudl has but it is proving frustratingly difficult to find a list of other ones that have this.

Obviously I don't know what you want to use the hdmi output for, but if you have wifi at home I would buy a Chromecast.

Every video that I can watch on my Tablet I can send to the hdmi input on the tv with the Chromecast.

Hi, personally I would prefer a cable connection because it is simpler and more reliable.

Also I would like to watch downloaded stuff from Iplayer on the tv in dad's caravan without needing wifi.

It's a couple of years old and I don't know if the new ones have it, my Fire HD has a mini HDMI.

That is very expensive for what is basically a connector IMHO.

A miracast dongle will do what you want. Tablet sets up a direct adhoc WiFi connection - no router or internet needed.

As far as I know it will work on any new android with 4.2 onwards. Most are 4.4 now or version 5.
Also works on PCs with windows 8.1 (not if an upgrade from 8.1 though).

Linx 7 tablet doesn't cost much more than that !!

£40 for an adapter for something that most tablets can do natively !?!?

Crazy isn't it. I was considering a second hand/ex display or something Ipad, but this has put me off totally.

I doubt that adapter costs more than a fiver to make, probably much less.

They output the same 720p resolution too.

The Hudl has 1080p HDMI.

A FAR better solution for an IPad/IPhone is an Apple TV box for about £65 (on offers)) This does a whole lot more but can also connect to iDevices over WiFi using AIrPlay.

Indeed.

That is exactly why it has so few standards. It is quite hard to see add-ons if normal things like HDMI just work.

I;ve decided to go with a basic Hudl 1. Not sure why so many of the more expensive tablets don;t support HDMI, but there you go.

Its the Hudl 2 that is 1080p.

I'm not too sure what max resolution the video etc is on a Hudl 1 and its 1080p HDMI connection.

I think you might regret this. HUDL1 is a bit long in the tooth.
I would buy HUDL2 plus a miracast dongle in prefernce to HUDL1.

Why not reconsider buying the LINX8 (I never use my android tablet now).
This is a full windows 8.1 implementation for <£100, and comes with 1 years MSOffice 265 subscription + 1 TB cloud storage worth £59.99 free of charge.

This is not cut down version of windows i,.e. you can download you familiar PC apps from wherever rather then the RT version which only had limited app from Microspft Store.

You need to make sure that your tv has good overscan and underscan settings if you buy a Linx tablet with Intel HD graphics because Intel have completely messed up the drivers and control panel.

If you've got an old TV or cheap TV without sufficient scanning options built into it you'll never get the picture to display properly with a tablet with certain intel HD chipsets, and this can apply to HDMI AND wireless display.

.
It is, but it is also cheap as chips on ebay. Indeed I could probably pick on up for the same price as that Apple adaptor described above And I know it will work with the cables I have right now (already tried with my friends Hudl).

There are things I would change about it, but it is so cheap now I could buy a Hudl just for this and another brand new tablet as well without having to worry if it has HDMI.

But I'll take a look at the Lynx as well

Dongles are great, but for me it just seems to be overcomplicating a basic task....all I want to do is download a few hours of telly and sling my Hudl and cable in a bag and away you go.

A cable may be more reliable on day 1, but tablets small connectors break easily through use.
Miracast screen sharing does not use wifi ( I think). So long as your tablet has the miracast ability, this will avoid the need for cables.

He said no WiFi otherwise the Apple TV box is now £59 at John Lewis and works well.

Apparently, you don't need WiFi to Airplay...

The objections to WiFi seemed to relate to caravan use. Even then I personally would use a broadband MiFi (which is also a router) and an Apple TV.
