Maybe the music video is selling the song to people watching on YouTube. Could well be a small viral success story going on which is helping to keep song afloat.”

Problem is, R2 have just taken it off their playlist. The album is stable however..its at 38.

It's impossible to predict a Madonna chart position these days (other than - unfortunately - it probably isn't at the top end of the chart).

Ghosttown needs another promo push and a reason for fans and casual music buyers alike to actually buy/stream it. She needs another couple of high profile TV performances and a standalone single with some alternate versions and/or remixes which might get it into the top 100.

I fear it might all be too late though.

Why hasn't the record label released a single version of Ghosttown? I downloaded the song on iTunes back in December when it was an instant grat (it remains the only song I downloaded from Rebel Heart as I just didn't rate the other songs enough to buy them).

Anyone who wants the song would most likely have got the track when they pre-ordered the album which leaves who exactly to download the song now? I'm surprised they didn't release a remix EP on iTunes considering Madonna's team uploaded a few mixes of the song on YouTube.

I 100% agree.

Because Madonna doesn't actually have a tradional record deal. She has a weird deal through Live Nation and Interscope distribute. She needs to sort this asap if she ever wants chart success again.

Maybe the fact she doesn't..proves she is no longer interested in the charts, in reality the career she has had/and still has, the charts should be irrelevant.

She has achieved it all, has nothing left to prove...and lets face it most artists say that promotion becomes dull after a while, so why do it when you no longer need to.

I'd actually say she's interested/obsessed with the charts more than ever. I can't see why else she'd be kissing Drake on stage if she didn't want the publicity, and extra sales that comes with that.

This is off topic, but are there any plans for her old record label to release a new greatest hits? It was annoying how Celebration was missing the single versions of some of her songs.

if we are honest many high profile popstar female artists (rihanna, gwen, kylie, madonna, lady gaga) are struggling in this new era of high digital single sales, low album sales and streaming charts ...music is much more disposable than it used to be. 2nd and 3rd single releases from albums are having little or less chart impact. 'Ghosttown' is a great track... great video ...but the management decision to not release an ep with remixes or bonus songs is ludicrous ....even fans won't buy a song they already have.

Does anyone know if music video purchases count towards the chart?

I just hope that she releases songs regardless to continue to promote the album and era. It is the only strategy that would make sense. Clearly 'ghosttown' has been selling for the last 6-8 weeks as its been in the top 75 iTunes and the album has risen in sales. Maybe she shouldn't worry about single chart hits anymore and just promote her music and album.

The next big promotional event is she is doing an online chat on May 2. You can submit questions here.

The tour is coming up. So she needs to start working on that since her tours take a lot of planning and rehearsal so time is sort of running out to continue with the promotion.
I'm really curious what this tour will be like. We haven't heard any rumours about setlists or the general feel of it yet.
I can see one more single and video maybe Bitch, I"m Madonna. But I don't see the point of releasing more singles if no one is really paying attention.
I think she needs to focus on the tour now.

I doubt it, but Celebration was definitely a wasted opportunity. You'd think that having a back catalogue as vast as Madonna they would have absolutely gone to town. They could have released some fantastic items. What did we get? A complete pointless 1CD, a rather bland 2CD and a DVD with some of the lowest quality music videos i've seen in years.

Do people still buy Greatest hits albums? With itunes you can download the songs you like by an artist and make your own. I know some fans get all worked up about these type of compilations but I could care less unless it has previously unreleased material or a new interview or something. It just seems like exploiting people to get them to buy the same thing they already have.

I agree but unfortunately, the single versions of some of Madonna's hits are not on iTunes (for example, Vogue). You would have to buy the original CD off eBay and they are not remastered.

Exactly, loads of her early hits were remixed slightly for single release and have never been released on CD. I remember when they announced the original Celebration tracklisting they actually used the Immaculate Collection mixes of many of her early singles which led to lots of very angry M fans Thankfully they restored some of them to their original album versions, but we still got the IC versions of many - including Vogue

3CDs should have been the bare minimum for Celebation IMO.

Rebel Heart is back in the top 40 at #37

Ghosttown up to #70 too. It's outpeaked 'Girl Gone Wild'. Result!

That's because the fans can't buy Ghosttown if they already pre-ordered the album. I agree though, don't understand why they didnt release a remix EP to help boost sales.

Music video purchases don't count towards the chart.

I think people need to accept that Madonna's run of chart success single-wise is over. It doesn't mean she won't be extremely successful still with albums and tours just as other artists are like The Rolling Stones etc.

I've been addicted to this song since it leaked and play it a lot. I think it's almost purely down to ageism that Madonna's current era has been so unsuccessful in terms of sales. Rebel Heart contains some of her best work in years with Ghosttown being a huge standout. I would bet money that if this had been, say, a Taylor Swift (or almost any other pretty female artist under 25) song, it would be number one. It's a pretty socially relevant song too right now, don't you think?

It's still a brilliant song

That's only on the sales chart. It didn't even make the top 100 officially.
