can i use sky on freesat lnb?
So I just moved into a property that has a lib for freest, but I disappointed with my channel line up, I have lent a sky box off a friend, but it doesn't seem to want to work of the lnb, am I doing something wrong, or is it just simply it wont work?
Thanks in advance. (Ps I tried a full install on the sky box) |

It should work. My dish is used for both (or at least it was, the Freesat box gave up a couple of months ago).
Is the wire you have to screw into the back damaged? Also is it a Sky+HD box? Or just the ordinary non-recording Sky box? |

There is no such animal as a Freesat LNB, nor for that matter a Sky LNB. Those channels that are common to both Freesat and Sky are exactly the same transmissions from exactly the same satellites.
Therefore if the dish is correctly aligned at the right satellites then either a Sky or Freesat box will work equally well assuming both boxes are in working order. So if a Sky box does not work on the feed but a Freesat box does then that implies the Sky box may be faulty. Unless that is there is confusion between Freesat and Freeview and what you are trying to connect to is actually a terrestrial aerial which obviously will never work with a Sky box. |

Thanks in advance. (Ps I tried a full install on the sky box) The lnb basically has to match the dish shape to collect the most signal and be a Ku band universal design. Chances are you have a dish and lnb that was actually designed for a sky install (The dish is oval and wider than it is high). If so you actually have a dish and lnb that was actually designed to be installed as part of a Sky install. They make so many millions of these that it's near certain the installer used a Sky Zone 1 dish for the freesat install. http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/lnb.htm http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/page10.htm |

![]() If it is a wall plate just be aware that some types use F-Type connectors (as commonly used for satellite) for every connection, including TV aerials instead of the Belling Lee type coax socket. Also Virgin cable uses F-Type connectors on it's wall boxes. |
