I believe Virgin show Sky Box Office events also.
YouView do not, and I don't see that changing any time soon. To be honest, I'm not sure why Sky even bother showing movies on Box Office still, given the advent of Sky Store. The only things popular on PPV now are boxing events, which are money spinners but few and far between. Wrestling will also get a few PPV buys, but since the WWE Network OTT service went live here three months ago, wrestling events on SBO have likely taken a big hit. I do think YouView is potentially as good a platform as Sky for PPV. There needs to be multiple players in the PPV industry, like there is in the U.S., so that platforms that aren't controlled by BSkyB can offer boxing and other premium one-off events on platforms such as YouView. As for WWE Network, that should come to YouView as its OTT subscription offering would sit nicely alongside Netflix. Can't see that happening any time soon either, that'd put Sky's nose even further out of joint! But if the YouView system continues to evolve and gain traction in the next few years, who knows what could happen. |
