Shirley Week
EastEnders have announced special plans for a week dedicated solely to Shirley Carter.
Shirley Carter, played by Linda Henry, will take centre stage in special week that will see Shirley shoehorned into every storyline on the show. The week is due to air this summer and is being tipped as one of the biggest this year.
Rumours are rife that Shirley will discover that Bobby Beale is Lucy’s killer when Jane Beale confesses to her as they connect over protecting their sons despite them doing horrible things.
Shirley will also hold Phil Mitchell to ransom when she discovers that Kathy Beale is alive and uses it to her advantage. Phil takes pity on his ex once more but he’ll live to regret it when Shirley answers his phone to ‘K’ and discovers that Ben and Ian’s mother is anything but brown bread.
She also discovers that Ian is using his midriff to store all his money and save trips to the ATM. She’s taken aback to discover that he is as ripped as his son, Peter. Ian will beg her not to tell anyone explaining that he doesn’t trust the banks or Jane with his money. Shirley will use it to her advantage and make him buy her a year’s supply of vodka.
Shirley is also tipped to unearth another huge Carter secret during Shirley Week that will have huge ramifications for the entire family. Will she risk tearing her family apart once more? She’s stopped in her tracks when Buster surprises her with a proposal.
In an EastEnders first, Shirley will appear in every single scene aired that week. An EastEnders insider stated that the story team were leaping up and down at the story opportunities and possibilities of including Shirley Carter in every storyline. When asked if the producer had any favourites, they replied, ‘Doesn’t every producer? Dominic created Shirley and holds a special place for her in his heart. She’ll be a leading lady as long as he is producer of the show.’
EastEnders producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, stated that it would be tantamount to treason not to use Linda Henry’s talents and Shirley Week would ensure her future iconic status along with being Danny Dyer’s mum. He dismissed rumours that Linda was being overworked. It was also reported that she was upset that Lacey Turner was appearing in most episodes but sometimes only for one scene, ‘Lacey has appeared in nearly as many episodes as me but she hasn’t even got a storyline. I’m appearing in every second scene with all my satellites and am exhausted’ she apparently sniped.
Linda Henry was asked to comment but was busy filming. Shirley Week is due to air this summer with a special Shirley trailer in the works.
