I was messing around with the car radio yesterday and there was a retro chart playing. The DJ announced some dirge by Shaking Stevens called 'Shirley'!!!!!!!!! I thought of this thread and burst out laughing!

EastEnders stars leave as bosses cancel filming after fans invade set

EastEnders bosses cancelled filming on Friday as Shirley super fans invaded the set wearing cunning guises.

News broke weeks ago that a special Shirley Week of EastEnders would air in July. Sources claim that Linda was filming her final few scenes for the special week when filming ground to a halt due to pictures of fans on the set emerging on twitter.

Cast were filming as normal on Friday but unbeknownst to them, some Shirley super fans had managed to dupe Elstree security guards and get on set. They pretended to be extras and backstage workers on the show as they bid to meet their idol.

Linda Henry became suspicious when she saw 'staff' wearing 'WE LOVE LINDA' tee-shirts with a load of Shirley quotes on the back but she assumed that it was part of the Shirley Week merchandise that will be going on sale.

Dominic Treadwell-Collins took to the set during the afternoon as Elstree went into lock-down. He commented, 'This was a severe breach of our security. The safety and well being of our team is of primordial importance and we had no option but to suspend filming until the matter was dealt with. This is now an issue for Walford Police who are conducting an investigation.'

When questioned by police, the super fans became quite aggressive claiming that they wanted to talk to the show's head honcho. One spat, 'Shirley Week is airing in July. It is a well known fact that this is the least watched month of the year. This is a complete and utter disgrace. Mr. Collins and his storyliners should be ashamed of themselves. I mean last year we got 'Billy Week', it's insulting to put an A-Lister and leading lady like Shirley Carter in the same league as that non-entity. I'm surprised Linda has not resigned!'

Police are taking the matter very seriously and are busy following the necessary procedures that are to be applied in cases like these. Linda refused to comment on the incident but close friend, Paul O'Grady, said that she is deeply shaken up and that she will be releasing a statement to her fandom in due course.

This comes after Linda's figure hugging onesie on The Only Way Is The Gutter on ITVBe broke the internet last week. Some theories are flying around that this may have been Shirley fans way of taking Shirley's muff out of the headlines. It has been an epic fail on their part.

Producers, in consultation with cast, felt time was needed for cast and crew to come to terms with the shock incident. A soap spokesman said filming was due to restart on the show on Monday (today).

EastEnders continues Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on BBC One at the normal times.

SHIRLEY WEEK A RESOUNDING SUCCESS PEAKING WITH OVER 9M

Early viewing figures show that Shirley Week peaked with 9m as she discovered the truth about Lucy Beale's murder. The show's best summer figures since Lucas Week in 2010.

Earlier this year, EastEnders announced special plans for a week dedicated solely to Shirley Carter where she would take centre stage by appearing in every scene. It didn't disappoint with the show receiving it's best ratings since Pat Butcher's death.

An inside source commented, 'Shirley Week has delivered in a way that Billy Week and Fat Elvis week didn't, further demonstrating the public's love for Ms. Carter. The 'boots are made for walking' trailer got everyone talking about the show again with forum boards awash with debate about Shirley's best moment. With over 100 Shirley Week scenes to decipher and interpret, we are sure there's plenty more Shirley debate ongoing.'

Now that Shirley knows all the Square's deepest secrets, like the fact that Kathy Beale is very much alive and well, she's sure to remain at the forefront for the remainder of the year and heading into 2016.

Shirley is tipped to have a big Christmas Wedding with Buster which will lead to another dark family secret being unearthed about Auntie Barbara Smith. Those head monstrosities don't fool us but what could the villainous slitheen be hiding?

EastEnders producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, stated that Shirley Week was bigger and better than he could have ever imagined; 'Linda and the crew outdid themselves producing one of the best weeks this show has ever seen. Dare I say, it was better than Live Week. There I said it.' He added that Linda would be receiving a well earned break teasing that there are plans a foot for a Shirley month; '2015 is set to be Shirley's year. This will be a pivotal year in the history of the character. We're only beginning to scratch the surface with this character. She has been lurking in the shadows for too long. Now is her time to shine and boy is she shining!'

Linda Henry was unavailable to comment about the success of Shirley Week. EastEnders continues Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday this week.
