EastEnders stars leave as bosses cancel filming after fans invade set
EastEnders bosses cancelled filming on Friday as Shirley super fans invaded the set wearing cunning guises.
News broke weeks ago that a special Shirley Week of EastEnders would air in July. Sources claim that Linda was filming her final few scenes for the special week when filming ground to a halt due to pictures of fans on the set emerging on twitter.
Cast were filming as normal on Friday but unbeknownst to them, some Shirley super fans had managed to dupe Elstree security guards and get on set. They pretended to be extras and backstage workers on the show as they bid to meet their idol.
Linda Henry became suspicious when she saw 'staff' wearing 'WE LOVE LINDA' tee-shirts with a load of Shirley quotes on the back but she assumed that it was part of the Shirley Week merchandise that will be going on sale.
Dominic Treadwell-Collins took to the set during the afternoon as Elstree went into lock-down. He commented, 'This was a severe breach of our security. The safety and well being of our team is of primordial importance and we had no option but to suspend filming until the matter was dealt with. This is now an issue for Walford Police who are conducting an investigation.'
When questioned by police, the super fans became quite aggressive claiming that they wanted to talk to the show's head honcho. One spat, 'Shirley Week is airing in July. It is a well known fact that this is the least watched month of the year. This is a complete and utter disgrace. Mr. Collins and his storyliners should be ashamed of themselves. I mean last year we got 'Billy Week', it's insulting to put an A-Lister and leading lady like Shirley Carter in the same league as that non-entity. I'm surprised Linda has not resigned!'
Police are taking the matter very seriously and are busy following the necessary procedures that are to be applied in cases like these. Linda refused to comment on the incident but close friend, Paul O'Grady, said that she is deeply shaken up and that she will be releasing a statement to her fandom in due course.
This comes after Linda's figure hugging onesie on
The Only Way Is The Gutter on ITVBe broke the internet last week. Some theories are flying around that this may have been Shirley fans way of taking Shirley's muff out of the headlines. It has been an epic fail on their part.
Producers, in consultation with cast, felt time was needed for cast and crew to come to terms with the shock incident. A soap spokesman said filming was due to restart on the show on Monday (today).
EastEnders continues Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on BBC One at the normal times.
