He was a lot more scary than Callum! Corrie used to be brilliant at doing baddies, people like Charlie, Tony Gordon & Richard Hillman who came & seemed normal & nice but over a period of time you'd start to see a more sinister side develop until they gradually became real bad guys. But what made them likeable was they still had redeeming features or showed remorse. Charlie was a nasty pieces of work but I think he saw off a bully who was harassing Roy & he had his limits, as u said he never killed anyone. I wouldn't say I liked him but I did love to hate him when he was on it

Jez Quigley was no more camp than Callum is now, but he was flipping scary.

Charlie was horrid to the lovely Shelley.

l agree with this post , Charlie, Tony Gordon, Richard Hillman, and who can forgot John stape , were all excellent baddies very sinister when necessary also able to do humour when needed, the Callum character just reminds me of a pantomime baddie , l just can't take him seriously.

Charlie was pretty much unlike any other Corrie character I can remember, but Bill Ward was brilliant at playing him!!
He could be charm itself one minute, then pure evil the next!! Sadly the whole Shelley storyline spoiled the character for me!! He was just plain nasty to her for months for no good reason other than she let him be, which made no sense whatsoever!! I never grasped what motivated that s/l at all & it completely ruined Shelley as a character!!

His demise at the hands of Tracy was something else that didn't make a lot of sense either, her plotting for months to kill him & making up elaborate lies about him abusing her, all because he succumbed to the temptation to ride the local bike a few times ( sorry Maria, but you were at the time ) while he was in a pretty unstable relationship with her ( Tracy)!!!
What was all that about!!

However to answer your question yes, he was a great villain, a character like no other, & always convincingly scary, you messed with him at your peril!!

He was a character I loved to hate so yes he was a good villain. Loved him and Tracy together.
