Apparently there will be no opening crawl which I am a little bit gutted about!

bbfc consumer advice for Rogue One, rated 12A- Quote:

Possibly. I think more casual viewers are going to be confused by Rogue One. "Why is Darth Vader in this one? Where is Luke Skywalker?" etc etc
It's obviously going to make a fortune of course. It's just a question of how big a fortune. I don't think anyone's expecting TFA business, but it may have the field to itself. 'Creed will probably need international markets to drum up a decent return, and for all the alleged vast sums poured into Passengers, Columbia may well have botched it. We shall see. |

Another one that would have been U in the 1980's then. All you 11 year olds better watch out for the "limited and brief" violence! |

Lucasfilm trademarked 2000 products at the EU all with the name "Star Wars- Forces of Destiny" this week, meaning that is likely the title of episode VIII.

The world premiere has taken place and early buzz suggests that Rogue One is a solid entry to the franchise, with many celebs gushing about it on Twitter etc

I'm surprised by the lack of hype for Rogue One compared to The Force Awakens as I don't think I've seen the trailer on tv yet for it when trailers for Force Awakens were on TV from the start of December onwards!
I've seen trailers for Rogue One in the cinema since November onwards! Do you think that Disney are being careful with Rogue One because it's a spin off film and they are unsure of the reaction to it? |

You said the same thing about Doctor Strange. Disney is behind both this and the Marvel franchise, rather than seek potential reasons in isolation, why not consider it wider promotion & marketing strategies. Your idea of hype might well be an outdated concept. Beyond that, TFA was a different beast, it was the relaunch of the franchise in film format.

No, Motthus is right. There wasn't a lot of hype for Doctor Strange however that's because Disney/Marvel did not do a good job at marketing Doctor Strange as they could have.

]With Rogue One, I think it's definitely the most anticipated film of the year but of course the hype levels are nowhere near the levels of The Force Awakens because that was an event movie. It was the first time in years since a Star Wars film had graced the big screens so of course people were more excited back then. It's not necessarily a knock against Rogue One. It's still going to make at least a billion dollars at the box office.
You're just repeating what I posted.

These people know what they're doing, they marketed DS just how they wanted to, and it didn't hurt the film one bit. But maybe you should write to them to pass on your wisdom and let them know how wrong they got it.

No, I'm articulating far better what you were sorta, kinda trying to say but said badly. Take care now.

All I'm saying is that considering how good the word of mouth was the movie would have done so much better if the marketing was less generic.

Well the early non-review opinions from the premiere are nothing short of brilliant with most saying it's better than TFA. I'm sure there'll be some more considered opinions when the actual reviews start to arrive tomorrow but if these early views are close to right then this could build very quickly and come close to TFA's box office.

Twitter hype is meaningless. How do you know some random on twitter has seen the film? The likes of Kevin Smith and Wil Wheaton aren't going to criticise a new Star Wars.
Interesting to see what Empire give it, purely because I think they'll play it down rather than issuing a review people potentially might still laugh at 14 years later. |

Here's a review of the film. Some minor spoilery talk but if you've seen the trailers it should be fine.

Most of the reviews have spoilers in them by the way, depending on how much you care about CGI
