Overall a very strong entry to the Star Wars series. I actually thought it was better than Force Awakens which, while I enjoyed it, did feel very 'Star Wars by numbers'.
The final third absolutely blew me away. It was just as good, if not better than anything we saw in the originals. That space battle was stunning and I loved the action on the surface of Scarif. *That* scene with Vader at the end was the best in the entire movie. I was impressed with CGI Tarkin when he first appeared, but that one scene should have been it. It became slightly distracting. Also, I felt revealing Leia's face at the end was unnecessary; I'd rather they kept the mystery by showing her from behind/with the hood concealing her face. The CGI was good but not quite there yet. But anyway, I'm nitpicking. This was a seriously great movie. I was fanboying hard when Vader's 'castle' appeared. ![]() This is exactly what the prequel trilogy should have been like: interesting characters, a good villain, cameos that make sense, and a world that actually resembles the original trilogy. |

Just goes to the show the difference when you sign a director who focuses on characters rather than simply CGI.
Reminded very much of Empire not only in tone but how actors played the characters without any full on overacting (Ian McDiarmuid in Revenge of the Sith) or unnecessary romance (clunky love scenes in attack of the clones). Edwards was forced to put in CGI Tarkin and Leia because we're talking 40 years from A New Hope and both characters were fundamental to this storyline. CGI isn't ideal but how they were portrayed was excellent and how Edwards linked that seventies feel between a modern film to a seventies sci-fi classic was brilliant. I personally think this is up there with Empire and having watched it twice now, I can't wait to see it again and actually savour the scenes knowing what's happening next. This is how the prequels should have been filmed. Revenge of the Sith should have been darker and whilst the lightsabre fight on Mustafar was essential it could have been played more subtly and exploit the character more. That said, Edwards had some quality actors, Lucas had Christensen. |

Well, I enjoyed it and want to see it again. The best scene was

I think it's much better than The Force Awakens. I rewatched that again last week and, even though it's now gone up in my estimation (free from the weight of great expectation), I think Rogue One is the better film. |

Just as well I didn't mention the Kaiburr crystal from Splinter of the Minds eye and how confused a whole planet of them exists.

I found the acting in Rogue One underwhelming where as the TFA acting was probably too over the top. So neither was great in that department. But then again, I've never watched Star Wars for the acting,

Rogue One is the number 1 movie of the year.
Force Awakens was too perfect, too goody goody, too much rainbows.. Rei was basically unstoppable and Finn become a Jedi years before his time. |

Mon Mothma's line from A New Hope stuck with me for 30+ years. One line, beautifully delivered in an understated way. It said so much. This is one of the reasons I love that they have made a whole film from that one line. It rang in my ears as I watched.

Finn a Jedi? Mon Mothma in A New Hope?
Are some of you watching some kind of "In a Mirror, Darkly" version of the Star Wars saga? |

Not sure how to break this to you but, well, your memories of 30+ years are...false.
this is what you get when your 7 year old watches them so constantly to the point they all merge into one and also become background noise. But despite the number of times it's been in my house I never once heard the word Bothans. ![]()

Anyone really wanna see a Peter Jackson Star Wars movie? I think that could be amazing if he avoids the mistakes of the Hobbit and goes back to what made the Lord of the Rings trilogy so great. I think he'd be perfect for Star Wars.

Well yeah, just as well, because you're confusing the Kaiburr crystal from the no-canon Splinter of the Mind's Eye, with the Kyber crystals of Rogue One, Clone Wars & Rebels.

Really enjoyed Rogue One. Wasn't as excited as I was when force awakens came out but it was a good addition to the franchise. The battle scenes were epic and just how I imagined when reading the old EU books. Far far better than suicide squad, which I saw last weekend finally.
It was quite refreshing seeing how they managed to get the plans to the death star in a time when there weren't very many Jedi around and how it was in-keeping with the originals. I liked how it lead up to a New Hope, and in some way has made me think about episode 4 differently. 3.5 out of 5 for me. Better than the prequels and slightly better than Return of the Jedi. |

There were a few scene in the trailers that didn't make the final cut. While I know this isn't unusual in itself, it does make me wonder what was changed as a result of the reshoots.
Personally I think the first time we see Vader was added later just to make sure there was more of him. Didn't really add anything to the story, and I just got the impression the last scene with him was supposed to be the "big reveal" moment. While I did want to see more of him, I can't help but think "that" scene was dampened somewhat as a result. His earlier scenes added nothing and if anything took me out of it as I listened to Old James Earl Jones voice. Same goes for Tarkin. I really think he should have been a figure in the shadows, perhaps only being revealed at the time of the test when he steps forward to say "You may fire when ready." |
