I'd quite like to see a "lost" Kenobi story - I wonder if Ewan would be up for stand alone Obi Wan movie?
That one has long been mooted as one of these "anthology" movies, so fingers crossed. Also read fairly recently that Ewan would definitely be up for returning if required.

There's a novel doing the rounds at the minute titled "Kenobi" which charts the character's early years on Tattooine where he settles after the events of Episode III. It's kind of in the vein of a western with Obi-Wan as a sort of mysterious drifter who roams around getting into scrapes with the locals and having adventures etc.

it was announced some time ago that although episode 7 and Rogue One are debuting in december of 2015 and 2016, respectively, Episode 8 is coming out Summer 2017

and where it was announced that another anthology movie will be set between the events of 3 and 4 other than Rogue One

at Celebration ??

I've always said that if you wanted a guaranteed money-spinner, then just call one of the movies "Star Wars Episode x - The One Where Jar Jar Dies Horribly" - I'd patiently queue in line to see that sh*t go down!
I've suspected that Lucas' original intention was to have Anakin kill Jar Jar in Episode 3, but his bad reception (Jar Jar, not Anakin) meant this wouldn't be possible as people would cheer. So Jar Jar was left to live another day.

Another thing I suspect is that Ewan will be in Episode 7, as Alec isn't around to play Ben's force ghost.

There was a good stand-alone story in the Star Wars comics set durin g Kenobi's younger days, something about protecting a shipment. Can't recall the full details. Maybe that could be the basis of a new film.

I hated McGregors Obi Wan, so I hope this doesn't happen.

It's heartbreaking to consider just how good the prequel trilogy could have been. With the right writers and directors, it could have surpassed the original trilogy in my opinion as the over-arcing story potential and themes were much richer.
Understatement of the millennium lol. George Lucas almost ruined what he created by relying totally on CGI and other digital technology rather than staying true to the wonder and magic of the originals. He even almost killed the original trilogy with his special editions - Greedo shot first, Jabba meets Han in Mos Eisley etc etc

He should have watched Empire on a loop to understand what Star Wars is about before starting the prequels.

The prequels could and should have been so much more. A build up over 2.5 films and then Anakins descent into Darth Vader rushed within 30 minutes. Clunky wooden actors, cheap characters solely to entice the kids and no real depth to the rise of Vader.

I'm so glad he's sold off the franchise and Disney offered him creative input but hopefully that's lip service more than anything.

Agreed. I've read/thought of countless number of stories/treatments that would have been a massive improvement on the actual prequels. But having said that, I could talk about alternative prequels all night, so best leave it there so we don't derail the thread.

The thing is it's only between 13 and maybe 16 years from the end of the III and IV, so it's not that long in the epic sense of things.

Some rumours about the movie -

Spoiler

It all sounds like it's going to take us right up to the beginning of A New Hope.

My only worry is that over-saturation will dilute the quality of the franchise.

I hope that the Anthology movies, whilst tied into the Star Wars universe, aren't instrumental to following the main storyline.

That would give them the freedom to try something new, which could be interesting. Equally, if an installment stinks it can be safely ignored without dragging down the main movies.

I wonder how they could credibly do the later part of line 3 in your spolier tag

maybe, they would go the route a few other films have

I can't see there being much unused footage to fall back on. They could use CGI which has been very impressive in other movies recently, but would certainly be good enough if they featured just as a hologram transmission for example, as the image is distorted anyway.

i was thinking benjamin button and x men 3 as examples of that yes, so it may be possible, good point about the hologram

They seem to have a decent cast for this.

Brit actors Felicity Jones and Riz Ahmed alongside Ben Mendelsohn, Diego Luna and Forest Whitaker. Mendelsohn most likely playing the baddie.

A story that shows how the valiant pilots of the rebellion got upstaged by a novice farm boy pilot, who hears voices in his head, and who destroys the Death Star virtually single handed. Rendering all their prior sacrifices and heroism forgotten.

Looking at the teaser, I think this has potential to take Star Wars in a really new dark direction. A gritty war film in the star wars universe; the possibilities are endless.

Decent cast too. Might be an interesting story about war and sacrifice.
