Apparently Disney are not happy with the first cut of the film and have ordered the director to do some reshoots in July.

http://pagesix.com/2016/05/30/disney...tar-wars-film/

Could be good or bad news really, perhaps they just want a bit more action in the middle of the film.

Or it might be a good film that's being ruined by studio interference. It wouldn't be the first.

Doubtful. This is the same director of he 2014 Godzilla film which was boring beyond belief.

Reshoots, further reshoots, characters added/dropped, entire scenes scrapped...

Many a good film has followed this path, though not quite with the same publicity perhaps.

Apparently the rumour is some of the reshoots are to are to include a young Han Solo, now they've cast the roll it makes sense and sets him up for his own film in a few years.

oh god, i didn't know it was the same director. my hype for this has plummeted. hopefully he's learnt from his mistakes and we'll actually be able to see something that happens in this film. i do hope that, if darth vader really is in it, that they treat him like godzilla and keep him in the shadows for the majority of it. i think that would be more affecting than just having him there the whole time.

Here's THR's take on it:

“This takes place just before A New Hope and leads up to the 10 minutes before that classic film begins. You have to match the tone!”
Would they really do that and include new Solo? There's some bluff going on here I think.

Went to see Civil War the other day (finally) and caught the trailer for this. Beyond the appearance of Donnie Yen, this was really poor looking. Just came across as really cheap and unconvincing imho. After the disappointing TFA I'm wondering if Disney doesn't quite have the handle on this Star Wars lark in the same way they do with Marvel.

What? I will be the first to agree with you that TFA was a disappointment, but purely because it was a A New Hope remake...in fact I would say Disney handled Star Wars so well that is why it was a disappointment as it was like watching episode IV all over again.

I read 40% of it will be re-filmed. Never a good sign.

I doubt it. The young Han Solo is in his mid20s, whereas the Han Solo of ANH was mid30s

Not true according to EW - http://www.ew.com/article/2016/06/03/rogue-one-reshoots

In other words, the changes involve more intimate moments – not redoing entire battle sequences or plot lines. “It’s a lot of talking in cockpits,” as one insider described the new footage.

If they really needed to reshoot 40% of it (which suggests a World War Z level of chaos) I imagine the first thing they'd do is shift the release date. You'd get a typical PR move about extra time to fulfill our vision etc.

World War Z was still a hit though.

Plus World War Z was greatly approved upon, at least compared to what we were apparently going to get. Well just have to wait and see.

Never said it wasn't. But if the reshoots are as extensive as rumoured in order to get a better film, they're pushing it regarding the release date.

Possibly but Disney would be very reluctant to give it up given how well EP VII did.

I hope they shift the release date so that Assassin's Creed stands a chance.
As for reshoots I'm not remotely surprised. This is the director that directed the painfully dull Godzilla back in 2014.

All big films have reshoots / additional photography these days. This is being blown out of proportion. Someone has leaked that the studio didn't like the furst cut - which may or may not be true - and has seen a chance to make some headlines by suggesting the reshoot (already scheduled) was because the film is bad. It's possible, maybe even probable, that they've changed what is being shot as a result of feedback but again that's nothing unusual. A lot of the changes they want will probably be made in the edit anyway.

It basically sounds like Disney found the first cut (it's only the first cut ffs) a bit too dark and 'straight' for what they want from a SW film i.e. a bit too '12' when they want more 'PG'. Personally I like the sound of a darker, more serious film. Chances are if Disney had owned the franchise Empire would never have got made.

Anyway, the teaser looked good to me, even if it does look like they've erased Kyle Katarn from existence.

Surely the whole point of the standalone films is to be able to do something a little different from the main series?

Look, we all know what we're living for as far as Star Wars is concerned.

The return of Boba Fett...

... in his original attire (plus a sassy new costume and revamped mask) with flashback scenes as to how he escaped being lunch.

Make sure to drop Boba back in, everything will be fine. Ebay would explode.

This film is set before the original Star Wars, he hasn't been gobbled up yet.

Perhaps you're referring to Episode VIII?

Just heard that a new 3 minute trailer will be airing next week on 15th. It'll be during a documentary about TFA, and will coincide with the start of Celebration Europe.

Also, during Celebration they will be livestreaming a special Rogue One panel (July 15 4pm), when director Gareth Edwards will join Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy & guests.
