Just get your friend to put their SIM in the phone and follow the instructions on screen.

You don't need iTunes looking at the apple support page for it

O2 are (well!!!) out of date!!! While you CAN still unlock an iPhone using ITunes the phone can do it itself as long as it has a working WiFi connection.

Putting in a SIM from any other network causes it to re-evaluate its lock status.

All the networks still give this iTunes required business. Sometimes phones don't detect properly on a change of SIM and iTunes can solve it - but if you've reset the phone that always works.

WiFi is needed.

To avoid confusion, the correct term is unlock, not unblock.

Just to be clear, have you definitely put a different SIM in to trigger the unlock? The iPhone will not give you any indication that it has been unlocked until you do so.

Perhaps - I just meant the phone itself won't give any indication that it is now unlocked until a SIM from a different network is put in and it checks with Apple's server to see what its current lock status is.
