I have just seen on Facebook, that Ikea are now selling wireless furniture and charging pads. Look good and reasonable prices.

Personally, the way I sit in a comfy chair with a side table, I prefer to use a charger stand which makes it easier to keep an eye on and react to notifications. I have a second stand by the side of my bed, again so I can see the screen without sitting up. I also have a number of small plate stands scattered round the rest of the house to park the phone in sight while I do the housework etc.

A flat charger plate is really only any good if working at a desk or possibly on a pub table like the old style video games.

I guess a bedside cabinet / table that had this technology would be useful, means your phone would be fulling charged when you wake up in the morning

I've purchased two of these so far, and intend to get the circular cutter so I can drill a hole in my computer desk and put one of the embedded ones in (if you already have a desk with a hole for wires, you don't even need to drill). It's neat because it's a wireless charger when flush, or you can push and it pops up to reveal a USB socket - which I believe is 2.1A and so good for fast charging (nb; not the fastest charging as in Qualcomm's 12V Quick Charge, but still pretty good). [Info here: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90291877/ ]

I got these;

I'm very happy with them, even though my main 'daily driver' phone doesn't actually support wireless charging! It's perfect for charging my N7, G3 and some other devices though - and the USB port is nicely hidden away, but allows you to charge anything.

I did notice that Ikea only seems to have the single charging pads if you just want a simple charger (not the twin or even triple ones) in store, and I couldn't find the one that you can embed in a desk.

Next on my list will be the bedside tables.

As you can see, I'm quite keen to have a wireless charger available just about everywhere I am in the house!

Personally, having a wireless charger works brilliantly at my desk in work. As when I put my phone down, if it needs a top up I just put it down on the charger. For the same reason I think such technology in coffee tables, tables in cafes / pubs etc would work really well too. However I am still to be convinced about how well it would work on a bedside table.

How come? I can't be among the minority that keep their phones on their beside cabinet overnight, unless there's some damage to be done by "charging" constantly overnight

Only fear I'd have with a bedside wireless charger is knocking it and waking up to a low/dead battery.

Some handsets, like the G3, need quite precise positioning.

For me anyway, I generally use my phone in some way during the night. Be it listening to podcasts / music or messaging my girlfriend. Especially when listening to podcasts or music when I had headphones in, it is almost impossible for me not to end up moving the device off the wireless charger.

And yes I know using such a device like that isn't good for your sleeping pattern, but ah well!

It would be good if IKEA named the phones it doesn't charge. Would it charge an iPhone4 for instance.

Another good reason to use a stand rather than a flat plate.

I use a Bluetooth speaker / large digit alarm clock to do that.

It charges devices supporting Qi charging, or a device with a suitable shell accessory. Ikea sell these too.
