Corrie: Sarah & Maria

Was anyone else puzzled tonight by the almost complete lack of any communication between Sarah & Maria?
Before Sarah went to Italy they were co workers & best mates, Maria was even bridesmaid at both her weddings to Jason!! To the best of my memory they never had any falling out so how come they were like practical strangers tonight? Bethany had more interaction (quite funny I have to say!!)

The continuity on this programme is dreadful these days!! Surely the least you can do if you're bringing back a character from the past is study their backstory!!
I wouldn't mind but I think Stuart Blackburn was part of the Corrie team at that time as well

I don't think Corrie bothers with a historian since Daran Little left for EE

I was wondering this from the start of Sarah coming back why she seems so unable to have a connection with most people

The return of Sarah and her brat of daughter has not impressed me; the writing for them is very poor. Would any mother let her daughter speak to a guest in the way Bethany spoke to Maria in last night's episodes? Maria used to be Sarah's best friend, but even if she was a stranger this was unacceptable.

Pretty silly stuff.

Bethany should be careful how she speaks to the person she's just asked (or should I say ordered) to do her hair for her Gran's wedding!! Lol!!

Another thing I dislike about Sarah's return is that after seven years away she seems to have come back even more immature & pathetic than when she left!!
I have to admit I have a bit of a soft spot for new Bethany but they're in serious danger of totally overdoing the bratty backchat & insults to people outside the family!! We really don't need another Tracy thanks very much!!

I'm sick of the pair of them. Are we meant to be entertained by a mother and daughter having a pathetic bickering session over hair conditioner? "I'll start behaving like a mother when you start behaving like a daughter".

Having been away from home looking after Bethany all these years, apparently with a successful career, you'd assume Sarah would have grown up a bit.

They are dreadful.

Daran wrote a fantastic episode for EastEnders last night, much better than the tripe we've had to put up with, since Live Week (Bar a few episodes), so I don't ever want him to leave for Corrie again!.

One thing that struck was, when Maria was banging on about David leaving her in the lurch, why didn't she ask Sarah to help out?

IIRC Sarah is a trained hairdresser is she not? She's also looking for a job....2 birds and all that.

I think that idea would be a little too advanced for this team of writers!!

Totally agree. I'm sure she is getting some of Tracy's lines!

I hope the writers remember/rekindle their friendship, both of them could do with some friends.

Yes, it was very strange. There's been such a huge turnaround at the salon it's hard to tell who stayed long enough to be qualified, but Sarah certainly worked there. Without those connections, I was left wondering what exactly Maria was doing at the party. Was she there because she works with David and Audrey? Because her boyfriend is Steph's brother? Because she's roughly the right age and wasn't doing anything else? In terms of personality, I don't think Sarah's that far off the mark but they need to give her a purpose and remember her history.

I agree, I actually really like Sarah as a character but the current incarnation of what was once great, is absolute garbage!!

Tina proved during the Todd coming out story that she can act, her character back then was a bit of a whiny cow, but generally likeable. I actually enjoyed her feud with David, and her selfishly pissing off to Milan, leaving the Platts and Jason the moron behind.

But I wanted her to return, as a more rounded woman (an actual woman!) the way they present her is like she’s a teenager....which blurs the lines with Bethany. I kind of expected a clone of Chrissie from ED when she landed. Designer luggage, well dressed and sophisticated. She’s been going at it alone for 8 YEARS! And she leaves Milan without a bye or leave with NOTHING?? Pffffft as if!

Sarah needs rescuing quick, before she becomes another downtrodden mum like Fizz or Beth (I like Beth but she has no drive or ambition....that’s fine for her, but Sarah’s backstory suggests she’s a grafter and has some direction in life)

I wouldn't have minded her sneakily worming her way into Audreys then over time managing to steal both that and the house from David. If they wanted to make her troublesome, there were so many more intelligent ways to do it, which are in line with the character and her back story.

Maria's only purpose seems to be to moan about David getting time off at the salon.

I love Maria but I do wonder if they'll even bother writing Maria when Samia goes on maternity leave? She's barely on screen these days!

She will probably go to Cyprus to meet her parents.

Forgot about her maternity leave, so I guess that means she will split from Luke then. Even though they only have a few scenes every two months so it might not make much impact. Quite disappointing.

Nothing major but there's a bit more interaction/friendliness between them in tomorrow's episode (which carries on where the Monday double left off).

She's my favourite character & has been for years but I can't help but agree with you!! She has had next to nothing under SB's reign as producer, bar the short lived and, in the absence of any follow up, pointless 'breakdown' debacle!!
I even wonder if she's just on a part time contract sometimes!! Corrie seem amenable with their long serving actors!! Perhaps she agreed to stay but on a reduced workload to spend more time with her daughter!! Just a thought but there must be some reason for her brief appearances & long absences!!

I never really thought best mates. I thought they were just colleagues at the salon who got on well. Sarah's real best friend was Candice. Maria's best friend had been Fiz, up until now anyway.

Sarah should go seek out Candice, save the actress from the absolute crap she's involved in, in HO!!

Cheers for that Daniel!! Nice to know our threads are noticed by people outside the immediate forum

This. Sarah is very immature and flighty. After being away all these years with no mother or grandmother to rely on and bringing up a child by herself in her own flat in a foreign country, you'd think she would have returned a bit more grown up. The way she is with Callum, you'd think she'd never seen a man before At times she acts younger than Bethany.
