CS - Time to clear out the Deadwood?
http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/c...ar-out-5556173
Completely agree with this article. Am so glad that what I have felt for a while is finally being published by someone, even if it it 'the mirror'. Hopefully corrie bosses will take note. Time for Antony Cotton and the likes to go. Long overdue in my opinion. |

People have been complaining about Cotton for years. I hope the producers see the article and do something about him but I don't think they will. They'd rather have their mates on the payroll than listen to the viewers or take note of what actors like Cotton are doing to the show. (I use the term actor very loosely of course)

A drastic overhaul isn't needed more to with writing and the way characters are being used

I don't think Sean will ever go. He is popular with viewers. Just not on here.

I share the authors observation in doubting that Corrie will ever scale it's former heights quality wise again.

People though that about Eastenders too though and a change of EP and a bit of a cast clear out have done it a world of good. I think Corrie can get back on track but they need to take some action first.

Totally agree with this, it's the reason we don't see much of the good characters as much. They need a big clear out, there is far too much cast anyway. And characters do seem to be disappearing for months without explanation as well, which is rather annoying.

Totally agree the writing is crap at the moment but the good actors can still get away with making a scene believable whereas Cotton can't carry off any scenes at all. The writing is the main problem but the acting quality needs to be looked at too I think.

The cast is too big, characters are there for the sake of longevity. Big axe is needed. |

The axe needs to fall on at least 12-14 characters.

Characters do need to go otherwise it's just a case of papering over the cracks ala Collinson.

Cotton is earning a fortune and he cannot act- its a disgrace to actors who can act who cant get work.

The poll on the Mirror says it all really.
The cast is far too big with all this deadwood that should have been axed 10 years ago and this never ending new/returnees characters turing up on the street is not helping either. |

Sacking Cotton would be a good start though. The writer of the article was spot on about his acting range and ability. They need to find a way to axe Sean and keep Billy though. That guy can actually act and I don't mind watching him. It's just sad who they've paired him with.
Cotton is so thick skinned - I am sure he does not care what a newspaper says except the newspaper is right. |

I mean did anyone actually miss Fizz. I really wish Corrie would get a Series Producer who actually had some B***s and got rid of some of these so called actors |

It's unusual for the press to single a bad actor like Antony Cotton out though and I'm glad someone has finally had the guts to do so. It echoes what most people have thought for years and he has gotten away with it for far too long. If he had any respect for himself or the audience,, he would have made it his own decision to leave years ago.

Cotton could play the homophobic card if he was sacked- I wouldn't put it past him.
