It was an eight year contract with channel 5 I believe

Neither will want it - the BBC has the hugely popular "Pointless" for the 5-6pm slot and ITV has "The Chase". Both bring in high viewing figures. The move to Channel 5 for Neighbours sadly, but unsurprisingly, shed viewers and interest in the show. I can only see Channel 5 and maybe a Sky type channel being the least bit interested in showing Neighbours now.

Maybe netflex and BT would enter the bidding war

Neighbours is great, but they already have two soaps to concentrate on. I cannot see them wanting to make the effort with another soap. Maybe digital channels will go for Neighbours?

The BBC could try for neighbours

I thought BBC had to let go of Neighbours due to the high fees to air the episodes. Would certainly boost ratings if it went back (and Beeb could stump up the cash). Get rid of the film effect though.

The BBC got rid of it years ago though. Why would they bid for it? By the way, when I click the link above, I only get an error message.

I have to agree with this. It would be a backwards step for the BBC. I also got an error message when clicking on the link.

The BBC has Doctors on at lunchtime and Pointless on in the 5-6pm slot so they don't need Neighbours as well, I can't see Channel 4 showing it they seem to prefer showing repeats of come dine with me or 4 in a bed until 6pm when they start their evening schedule.

The BBC willingly gave up Neighbours because they didn't think it was worth what Channel 10 were asking, they wouldn't want it back now. ITV might want to try and scupper Channel 5 but probably wouldn't bother. I expect it'll be a non-event and Channel 5 will just sign another contract without much fuss.

yeah, if Neighbours wasn't priced out of the market some other channels may have been interested, Its dying a slow painful death on Channel 5 and I can't see many channels that would take it - smaller channels would be interested to boost their ratings but can't afford it whilst bigger channels won't waste money on it knowing it will only pull in a few million

I thought Channel 5 paid part of the production costs?

Why? I still love it and many others out there do too. I have grown up with it and would hate to see it go. Apart from a few little niggles, Neighbours is the best it has been in years.

Agreed.
Doctors does the job at 1:45pm on BBC1 and Pointless does the job at 5:15pm
Both shows rate well and are cheap to make.

The BBC did right in dropping Neighbours. Why pay the expense? BBC1 should be about home grown shows anyway.

The BBC won't take it back on and ITV won't waste their money on a show that's expensive and sinking. I doubt even Channel 4 would be interested.

Perhaps Sky one will pick it up

The rights went up to a silly amount and the BBC didn't feel it was right to spend the money.
The BBC don't need it back. Both it's timeslots are covered by cheap and popular shows.

It would be nice not to have to fast forward through adverts!

It would boost ratings certainly if the BBC took it back, but I don't think they will even bid. Been there done that, got the T shirt. They haven't forgotten how greedy Freemantle/Media were. Also they conveniently forgot what the corporation did for the soap! They have their own very sucessful daytime soap Doctors that does very nice business for BBC1. They have pointless that rates well. itv won't want it either as they have the sucessful Chase. The only way they may be interested if it was going for a song. Channel Five may be able to bid a few peanuts and a packet of seeds and get the soap dirt cheap. It would serve Freemantle right. Nobody likes a greedy sod!
